Vanney said yesterday there's a place for two more moves (including the Joveljic signing I believe), and there is another rumor : 1420560175648358401 is not a valid tweet id Apparently we are trying to sign 26 year-old Uruguayan LB Camilo Candido, playing for Nacional in Uruguay. He was called up to his national team for the last Copa America (but he didn't play and has zero cap). We offered a loan until the end of the season with an option to buy, but it has been rejected. Seems a little strange for this season as we already have Villafana, Acosta and Drack (he has already been loaned to the first team last week), but maybe a good option to have next year with an aging Villafana.
I now actually believe we’re signing Joveljic. I thought it was a rumor too good to be true, but Fabrizio Romano is a very reputable source.
Camilo Candido is an interesting move. I wonder if he can play left mid as well? Love the depth, love the fact he is 26. It's like Vanney is actually trying to build a team, a culture, and some depth. We got lucky when he fell into Klein's lap.
We could use the depth. Villafana needs rotation relief - he’s started in all 15 games this year and is 2nd only to Bond in minutes played. And the high usage seems to be wearing him out. And clearly Vanney - who isn’t shy about using younger players - doesn’t think Acosta or Drack are ready. He has only played Acosta a total of 36 meaningless minutes this season and Drack none. That suggests that we have no real depth at left back and are one injury away from having to start someone Vanney doesn’t see as ready for first team play. Plus, as you pointed out, Vanney seems to be building for the long term. Bringing in a proven 26yo left back to groom as a future replacement of the aging Villafana fits that plan nicely. Btw Villafana is only 31. On paper that’s not that old for an outside back. But players age differently and he seems to have lost some pep in his step. He’s been very good for us overall but in recent games he appears to be making a few more more mistakes and to have cut back on the frequency of his attacking runs. I think he’s either tired or trying to preserve his body. Hopefully we will be able to pick up this Candido fellow and he turns out to be someone who can help us solidify that position.
I am for any LB that is National Team caliber. Especially if he is ultimately better than Villafana who has been very good for us. If this happens and this dude is as billed then this is just extra awesome. I feel like we are at the dawn of a new Dynasty era team.
NEWS: Costa Rican outlets are reporting Giancarlo Gonzalez has re-joined Alajuelense, paving the road for the Dejan Joveljic deal to go through. #LAGalaxy pic.twitter.com/tV7C1gJC6U— el trafico tv (@eltrfco) July 30, 2021 real good work by DTK and Vanney.
We are basically flipping the worst center back on our roster who hasn’t played a minute this season for the third leading goal scorer last season in the Austrian league who hasn’t even entered his prime yet. That’s a baller move there, Vanney.
Who would have known that an LA Galaxy OG would have turned this team around in one season? It shows what pride for your roots can do as well as knowing MLS's dizzying system and transfer rules.
I mean seriously. How could our coaches and GM sign such incompetent defenders for so long? It would be laughable if it wasn't so depressing.
Otro legionario en el extranjero. Gerson Chavez entrenará en el 1er equipo de @LAGalaxy_Es de la @MLS y jugará en el 2do equipo de esa franquicia. Exitos al muchacho de Corozal. He's signing with G2 but reports from Honduras adding he will train with the first team. Option to buy at the end of the year.
This seems like an extended tryout similar to Carlos Harvey. With Dos Santos’ contract expiring at the end of this year, we may be looking for a non-DP, relatively inexpensive, replacement, leaving the DP spot for someone higher up the field.
The entire panel of the Galaxy Guy podcast felt pretty strongly that Jona's days as a Galaxy player are numbered.
Dejan Joveljić is now flying to Los Angeles in order to complete his move to LA Galaxy. Done deal, confirmed. 🛫🇺🇸 #MLSHe’s gonna sign a 4.5 years contract with LA Galaxy, leaving Eintracht Frankfurt on a permanent move. #LAGalaxy https://t.co/pjhKC05h73— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) August 2, 2021
It's all conjecture. From what I understand, we aren't giving Dos Santos a DP contract extension, but we will offer him a TAM deal. I do see the value Dos Santos brings to the team, but it does feel like he only plays about half a season because of injuries and callups. I'm sure a team in Mexico would give a good contract. Just depends if they can give him more than what he'd get here.
This. I think he gets offered a TAM contract. Just depends on whether a Mexican team offers him more $$ and guarantees of playing time.
It seems staying healthy has been a real struggle for JDS. I really hope for the Galaxy he takes the TAM deal and sticks around and ends his career in the part-time player mentor role. It'd be easy for him to get more leaving, but there is some value in staying - giving yourself and your family some consistency and helping to build something. Of course, with his brother getting shipped out (not necessarily undeservedly) he has a recent reminder that it is a business and he may be quick to pack up and ship out to collect one last end of career payday. I'm hoping for the former, but I won't begrudge a professional athlete treating it like a job, even if for me it's a fun hobby being a fanatic.
