Well, we move on, but that was disappointing. I hate seeing the low block, and it the scoreless tie gives us no momentum into the next game. I would still love seeing more energy in the next game.
Australia goes on to QF unless: Japan wins (likely) and either China wins with 4 goals or Zambia with 6 goals (both extremly unlikely).
I need something to laugh at so I am watching an old episode of "All in the Family." (The one where Archie gets arrested.) It will be better and a LOT more fun than what we just witnessed.
I got up early to see a game and instead, USA didnt show up. I dont think it was some master plan by Vlat, We were out played again......two out of three group games. Not sure who to be mad at? the team or the coach or both??? Im leaning towards the coach. He picked the team, he makes the lineups and he cant seem to motivate them to play hard. Hint to the Netherlands... you want to beat the USA? Press them hard. They will panic and couch up the ball. Im not one that believes you can turn ON a better performance at will. We could easily go out in the next game. We are too old and too slow. Vlad has to rebuild, without the the aging "stars." We need to get younger and faster
Vlatko is deciding to play conservatively for some strange reason. It doesn’t seem like we can beat good teams playing like this. The team plays best when pressing and in transition. If we continue playing like this and don’t win the gold medal Vlatko has to be fired.
Apparently, this is where the USWNT jumped the shark. They played scared and, as it turns out, that was probably their best chance because they also showed no skill. If you cede possession to Australia and are content to hold on for a 0-0 draw after getting outplayed in all elements, you aren’t the uswnt anymore. It’s not worth really going player by player, but Mewis deserves special note for how awful she played. I think she may have completed 2 passes. She looked like she had never played before on several occasions. Hard to see this team getting a medal unless they have a real evolution in the next few days.
1. I had a similar reaction to Mewis today. And Naeher’s distribution was very subpar as well. 2. Vlad must have made the call not to press because they did it as a team. Maybe he was trying to save energy. Maybe the two coaches made a deal. Whatever the reason we are toothless now w/o it. 3. I thought Lavelle, Ertz, and Davidson played well — up to their standards. Morgan wasn’t bad either. Everybody else had an uninspired match. Bad mojo on this team right now.
the current Tokyo heat wave might be the reason why most teams took it easy today, especial Heat wave brings humid, hot temperatures to Tokyo Olympics all except for one took it easy; the red hot Dutch, which unfortunately will be our next opponent! You all have covered it all. Never seem more of a lame duck than the uswnt performance to date. I mentioned ahead of the Olympics the midfield outside of Rose was listless and it has proven to be spot on. Not giving Catarina enough time, or even a roster spot in the 18, only highlights the ridiculous and boring midfield. But, they have surprised us before when the threat of single elimination came around...
What the ******** was that? I can't believe I got up at 3:50 AM to watch West Germany vs. Austria, again. Disgusting! We need to fire Vlatko and hire Herm Edwards.
By the way, I am surprised @lil_one hasn't opened the thread for the quarter-final match yet: too much frustrated with this last game to do that?
I thought the Dutch should--and would--rest starters and take it easy. Instead, Wiegman played most of her starters--some inexplicably for 90'--in an 8-2 win. Whether that proves smart or crazy, I'll guess we'll see.
I was a fan of the New York Jets for decades--until I stopped watching that type of football altogether because of the horrific damage it does to those athletes. Herm Edwards? I lived through rooting for a team he coached once. That was enough.
