Just judging from the highlights that was perfectly ok outing as a winger in a 3, but the idea that that player is/was going to become one of the "best strikers in the Bundesliga" remains as silly today as it was when his coach made it... Sarge is not a bad player, but he has yet to show he's particularly special in a top-league setting. Hope he has a break-out year and proves me wrong.
For what? So he can bring his his "missed a cow's arse from 10 yards with a banjo" act to England? Nobody's going to pay 10 million euros for that. If he produces, they'll pay 20 million. Until then, nada
Very dramatic reactions here. That was a bad whiff but it wasn’t even in front of goal. Way to the side and very little chance of scoring. Freak out when he misses another sitter or one on one with the goalie.
The way it's looking, it might make a lot of sense for him to play out this season and then sign with his hometown 2023 MLS expansion team. He'd want somewhere to play on loan leading up to the world cup, but surely that can be arranged.
Or he could be on a downward spiral and out of soccer in 3 years. Josh needs to be better. I'm all in on Bremen being terrible but Josh himself isn't doing squat. That has to change for him to go to a better team.
Take it easy. He plays well in the middle third and has a ferocious work ethic, but he just doesn't score and it's not clear what he kind of player he actually is: a #9, a #10, a #8, an old-style inside-right? There'll be teams willing to give his current iteration a contract for as long as he wants to play. They just won't be (regular) BL1 sides.
I would say in a vacuum, yes, but there is just not a lot of indication that Sarge is improving his scoring sense. That wiff was nothing. That happens to lots of players trying to crank a ball hard from a tough spot. To me it's more that he seems more at home/comfortable playing wide - and in the few sequences he does cut inside he just does not seem able to find a shooting lane. Not sure what the answer is. He might be a good RWF in the right 4-3-3, especially if it's a team that let's the front 3 swap and play thin, but he seems to moving away from a CF striker-type and inching into a tweener role. Hope it's short term and he starts getting into goal again.
I was in the stadium for the first time in almost 2 years. What a great experience but what a difficult game against a surprisingly well organized Hannover. I’ve never seen a game where the psychological baggage was this obvious. A good scene leads to another good scene and a bad scene leads to another bad scene. Remember that this is almost the same team that got relegated due to a 10 game losing streak after everybody thought they were safe after the Bielefeld win. It will take a couple of weeks for this to get better and once more fans are allowed they can carry the team to wins which are so important psychologically. Bremen stopped the sale of season tickets at 30000 so even BL2 home games will be sold out. With that in mind, I actually liked the missed volley from Sargent. He could have played it safe but he took a risk and if it had worked out it would have been a confidence booster, not just for him but also others around him.
Sargent better start scoring goals as if he isn't a striker he is poor people Aaronson, who is better at everything else, but obviously not a striker.
Probably have heard enough about it by now. Kid missed it, shit happens. Everyone makes a flanger from time to time, and he knew it the instant it happened. He doesn’t make a habit of things like that. It doesn’t make him the worst striker in the 2BL. He is not terribly good at the moment, but looked pretty good in possession and as part of the attacking moves. Lets see where he and Bremen go from here. I would think he is not a massive target for other teams looking for a scoring threat so he’ll be at Bremen until he either catches fire or they want to get rid.
Right because WB clearly have other options that are dangerous in front of goal. WB’s problem has been a lack of creativity in the final third and an inability to connect the midfield to the attack. The simple fact is that moving Sargent wide and starting Fullkrug in the middle improves their attack. Not because of anything to do with Sargent but that Fullkrug in the squad makes them a better team and he can’t play out wide. Neither could Selke. WB don’t have wingers so if they were chasing points they’d throw a bunch of strikers on the field.
Given his skill set, if he doesn’t score goals he could be valuable in the attacking midfield. I saw him a lot last year. He has a good motor and presses well, sees the game at speed, isn’t afraid to stick in, etc.
