In my defence I said that before France started losing all its players lol And for the record these Olympics should still be cancelled, although for different reasons.
In 2012 we won the olympic gold. The guys who went to Europe or were in Europe like Raul Jimenez, Hector Herrera, Nestor Araujo, Gio and even a guy like Diego Reyes had good to great NT careers while guys who stayed like Nestor Vidrio, Javier Cortes, el Chaton Enriquez (who then tried too late and could only go to teams like the Cyprus league) and Hiram Mier didn't do as well. NT is one thing but the scale between clubs isn't going to change and the Dutch league and Belgian league are going to be leagues where the jump to the top 5 leagues is closer. Egypt just tied the favorites Spain but I doubt people are going to think the Egyptian league is better than the Austrian league in the eyes of people around here, so I doubt that changes because of today's great performance. It would be better yet for some people to not meltdown about the future like some did with the Gold Cup results. And hopefully the guys that should leave to Europe, leave and for Montes not to become Mier the sequel.
Yeah, my comment was obviously tongue in cheek for the people who seem to consistently claim the liga mx is garbage and doesn’t produce players because we beat El Salvador 1-0 and should have won 6-0. Ideally there’s both options, players in Europe and a strong league, the point is that liga mx isn’t the usl like some people would like to think either. Btw wasn’t mier fragile as a piece of breakable glass? I don’t think he’s a good example, he would have disintegrated playing somewhere like England
Mier had a bad injury that people think was his downfall but I don't think he was as bad Chaton or others before that. Yet he was primed for a good career in Europe at the 2012 Olympics, he was a beast and as good as Montes and yet he didn't leave (to be fair don't know what offers) but didn't and thus how it went. The worse though was Nestor Vidrio, who supposedly had talks about going to Portugal and yet he went from a guy like that to a Liga MX lifer. It's a great result but seeing some cases, people should be a little cautious in crowning. That being said, a lot better than a U20 or U17 tournament for future success.
Now that the hype has subsided a bit, I'm gonna be frank: France was no parameter and whether Mexico can medal or not will be more obvious after the match against Japan.
Smh, no one has lost their head dude. The team is talented, just enjoy the fcking w and wait for next match.
We will see. I know it’s different teams but I expect a Japan coming out in overdrive like their full squad did vs Mexico in that friendly not too long ago.
Japan is overestimated since when? on the contrary, in the West Asian teams are often underestimated, I live in France I know what I'm talking about. We saw the case with the game Belgium vs Japan during the 2018 world cup, where many people saw Japan lose on a large score, in the end Japan almost won. In any case we must always remain humble no matter the team we face and never underestimate it! I do not say this for you, but for the people who will think so ... As a Japan fan, I'm very excited to see Japan playing against Mexico, knowing that it will be very difficult for us, I wish you good luck!
BTW, what the heck happened to Reyes? I know he is back with Tigres after flopping with smaller and smaller teams overseas. At this point in his career, should have been an anchor for the defense w El Tri. I know he is nowhere near National team level now. what happened? sorry for detailing thread with this side topic.
It is weird to see how many people seem to think Japan is the same as in the 80s or something. If I remember correctly their clubs have consistently beat liga mx teams in the club World Cup, they have reached the same stage as we have in the World Cup a few times recently. It’s not like they’re the Bolivia equivalent or something.
Japan is essentially the level of consistency the US is trying to reach. They have good league with good players, hell even south Korea has produced an elite player.
I've been watching the Canelo Angulo YouTube channel. It's good to see the behind the scenes and the team has a really good vibe.
Just got done re-watching the doc they made on Mexico after the Gold medal in 2012. I tell you what, Gio was huge for that team, but it was definitely a team that played together and had great chemistry. side note, we give a lot shit to Gio over his career, for sure he didn't have the great club career we had hoped for, however he has given us many great memories playing for El Tri.
So Gold Cup vs Honduras will be over around midnight ET, then just 7 hours later Olympic vs Japan. Here goes a 2-0 weekend
It's not the same team but they gave us one of the biggest beatdowns in Mexican history in the 2019 U20 World Cup. That team wasn't good and it's just a youth tournament but they totally dominated us and we were lucky to just lose 3-0. I don't know what will happen but there should not be any overconfidence because they are a good side and even if there is no public, they are still the hosts.
My two cents here...............what a greater than great performance by this team. I stayed up all damn night and it was well worth it because its Mexico!!! More than half of these players should have already been in Europe, or have to be in Europe ASAP!!!! Off course ive seen this movie before and i prey that these players escape from Mexico and go to Europe!!!!!!! It was a very good win...........but its over, now its time to concentrate on Japan because that game wont be easy. The Japanese team is very well discipline and anyone who thinks its going to be easy is a damn fool! You never, ever underestimate your opponent Lastly, i believe Mexico has what it takes to get a medal, but which one exactly? Well.........that is up to the players, but so far this team definitely has some heart!
If a company would have done this with the Chinese flag on something, China would be all up in arms. Smh https://www.yahoo.com/sports/jersey-erick-aguirre-had-flag-061433839.html
