"There is a shooting incident outside the stadium. No shots are in the stadium. Everyone should leave the stadium now for your safety." Brilliant.
Subs and tactics. He decried the team for pressing late against NYCFC and hey went and did it again against Philly. Thx, Jay!
We started out like a house afire but got too caught up in the thrill of the chase and failed to properly defend. Then injuries - again. It's a good thing we gave all those Loudoun guys playing time during the tournament at Audi - we may need them.
Yes. So far, I have been a fan of where Losada has been leading this team. However, I thought that he threw the players under the bus a bit after that NYCFC disaster. The coach should definitely have determined our positioning on that corner kick at the end of the game. If he wasn't, then shame on him and he should have been embarrassed to admit it. Bad form. Again, loving the overall positive play but you can't be naive and throw away points at the end of the game on the road.
With Losada, it appears that it is always going to be high risk/big reward. For the most part, I am OK with this but we also have to be smart. As the game progresses, we have to adjust the tactics to the scoreline, the opponent, and the conditions on the field. Overall, the team tactics are working. We dictated play from the opening whistle and created a lot of possession in their half and created several turnovers in their final third. However, when you expend that much energy, you have to get the goal. The execution in the final 1/3 just wasn't good enough. Then, in the last 20-25 minutes the coach has to be more aware of the situation. It was humid and we had to make 2 early subs. Players were gassed. If Losada wanted to press for the win, he should have made subs earlier. The alternative was to dial it back a bit and protect the point. We did neither. As other have pointed out, without Pines and Hines-Ike, our back line is slower and more vulnerable to the counter. It is up to the coach to make sure that they adjust their line position accordingly. I did not see the Capital Cup games. If any one knows, were there any center backs that showed well? We're hurting.
Goff does suggest that Birnbaum did not seriously injure the ankle. Thank goodness. However, it does sound like a sprain and he is likely to miss Wednesday. Guess it will probably be Brillant in the middle? https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2021/07/19/brendan-hines-ike-hip-injury-dc-united/
