It is a glorified friendly tournament because we didn't bring our best players and nobody is at risk of losing a night of sleep or a job if we crash out in the quarterfinals. Also, there are teams not in our confederation and teams not even members of FIFA playing in it. That too.
I'd be surprised if he plays with a pending deal on the table. Done deal and total agreement reached, confirmed. Gianluca Busio leaves Sporting Kansas City to join Serie A side Venezia on permanent deal. 🇺🇸 #MLS #VeneziaPersonal terms also agreed. Sporting KC will receive €4m guaranteed + add ons. Busio will be in Italy soon.— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) July 17, 2021
If busio report is true, yeah, bubble wrap him, he’s not gonna play against canada. I’m hoping dike becomes quite the bid battle so we have him much of the cup if not all
Add Cannon to the guys with noted recent interest. Source: Clubs from England, Turkey and Belgium in the mix for Reggie Cannon https://t.co/TrRMnJwK4W— SBI Soccer (@SBISoccer) July 17, 2021
Copa America usually has guest teams, how do you think USA & Mexico play in it? (back when we had the guts to go). Not saying the B Gold Cup is not B list, it kinda is. But Mexico & Canada brought their A teams. As did virtually everyone else.
Reggie Cannon is now taking questions from the media for the #USMNT press conference.“I’m back 100%” from injury. He also said that he’s been impressed with Shaq Moore, who has been filling in for him. pic.twitter.com/NtHAHJp2fb— Anthony Kristensen (@AMFKristensen) July 17, 2021
I would expect players coming back from injuries to be subbed in and not started, especially in a meaningless match.
Hoping to see some more of this tomorrow. Patience + timing = GOAL 🇺🇸🔥The @USMNT had a beautiful build up in this Daryl Dike goal🔥 pic.twitter.com/qoinBje7fv— FOX Soccer (@FOXSoccer) July 16, 2021
I still would rest Cannon.... let him come in as 70 min sub, and move Moore at RW for the rest of the game.
I’m guessing Busio is still available... Cannon is clear... Arriola is not.... —————-Dike—————— Hoppe————————Roldan —————Lletget—————— ———Busio——Acosta——— Bello—————————Moore ———Sands——Zim————- —————-Turner—————— Subs: Vines (Bello) 46 Cannon (Roldan) 60 - move Moore to RW Gioacchini (Moore) 75 Zardes (Dike) 75 Williamson (Busio) 80
He says he's ready to go. He's the first choice right back in this group, hasn't played and doesn't have another game for a week. There's no reason to rest him.
This match is about as meaningless as a match in a group can be when the actual winner of the group is still undecided. I believe both teams should play, as much as possible, the players that will not be missed in the remaining rounds. Playing to avoid any team or playing to try to meet some team, that is trying to win, lose or draw just to try to control the next round is foolish. It does not when matter we play whomever, if they are any good we will have to beat them anyway to win the tournament and visa versa. I am not saying we should "rest" anyone but, given CONCACAF players and refs the chances of injury through the game getting out of control is pretty high and not worth the risk. The players will all want to play and injury be damned but the coaches should assert themselves and not put any player of value into a dangerous position unless it can't be avoided. I have also noticed that many Canadian players get carried away and foul hard if things do not go their way. Another reason that this game carries inordinate risks. Of course the way this tournament is set up few, if any, of the players that really matter to the US's future are even here. So, maybe nearly everyone is really little more than canon fodder so playing the best or playing the worst really is just throwing a few "red shirts" out to get phasered or disrupted.
If he’s fit, he’s fit. But I wouldn’t bench Shaq. —————-Dike—————- Hoppe————————-Moore —————Lletget————— ——-Busio———-Acosta——- Vines/Bello——————-Cannon ———Sands——Zim———-/ —————Turner—————-
Since I got 10/11 (Acosta --> Roldan the only miss) last game, I'll take a shot at this one as well.... Assuming it's a 3-4-2-1 again: --------------------Dike--------------------- ---------Hoppe----------Lletget----------- -Vines------------------------------Moore- ---------Williamson----Acosta------------ ----Robinson--Sands--Zimmerman---- ------------------Turner--------------------- Bello wasn't great last game but I would still start him again over Vines... I just don't expect Gregg to. That's the only spot where what I want differs from what I expect. Moore over Cannon because the former is likely to fare better against Tajon Buchanan. Lletget over Roldan because the latter is just too limited physically against non-minnows. Any 2/3 of Williamson/Acosta/Busio would be fine but leaving off Busio with all these rumors of an imminent Venezia move... plus he's the most likely to be physically overmatched. Of course I still have this fear that Berhalter has not changed one bit, and we'll see Yueill/Lewis/Zardes, and even Roldan, in addition to Vines (how could it get any worse, Pines for Zimmerman? Guzan for Turner?) but hopefully that's just me being silly... Gregg didn't disappoint me last game and surely he won't again!
