ok so let's see 2006 all UEFA final and semi final. UEFA 1st , 2nd , 3rd and 4th 2010 all UEFA final and 3 out of 4 teams were UEFA in each of the semis before. UEFA was 1st , 2nd , and 3rd place.. CONMEBOL 4th place 2014 only 6 UEFA teams made the 16 round KOs , BUT... 4 went on on to the quarters and then 2 out of the 4 made each of the semis. Then 1 won the WC. Uefa 1st , CONMEBOL 2nd , UEFA 3rd and CONMEBOL 4th 2018 all UEFA final and semi final. UEFA will be 1st through 4th.....that's 12 years later....6 out of 8 UEFA in quarters too So why again with the WC expanding to a ridiculous 48 teams in 2026 does UEFA get 3 more measly spots out of 55 and CONMEBOL an extra 1.5 spots out of 10 ( 60 percent btw....pretty good huh ) ? It's a joke and without UEFA and CONMEBOL the WC would be a friggin joke. But money in the end corrupts , because if UEFA and CONMEBOL had any integrity left they would break away from FIFA and form their own real tournament and governing body ( as if that would be allowed to happen anyway ). I mean , for sure , WC in 2026 is going to be so much better with teams like Trinidad and Tobago , Jamaica , Jordan , Cape Verde and whatever other bullshit footy teams come along. Participation trophies for everyone !!
I think that was all they were willing to ask for to make everyone else happy quite frankly. Based on results of UEFA squads and percentages of squads that can qualify out of their 55 nations , they should have asked for 2 more for 5 total more . That would be fair ( based on results and being the strongest federation ) but then again Infantino didn't want to create waves so he gave bullshit federations more bullshit spots. Conmebol ( not calling it a BS federation btw ) now gets 6 out of 10 going through. which is ok by me because imo they bring waaay more to the tournament compared to the other weak federations like CAF and CONCACAF and OFC. But that is 60 percent of them qualifying , which is very good for them. Spots should be given on merit , not on money and trying to be popular. 2022 will be the last true WC in the desert with air conditioned fields , if we can even say that now because imo this WC and the previous were rather generic with no passion anymore. Now for 2026 Infantino has proposed gimmicks , like pks in the group phase to prevent match fixing in the last group game , because of the 3 team groups with the top 2 teams going through. Hysterical really. Like a game of pick up footy he now is turning it into. WTF has happened man?
