I’m wondering when this role will be announced. We need to ask the question to the likes of Olise and Green to see if they want to enter our set up. This is the right group to ask that question to see where they stand. Both players will likely be selected in other nations squads in 6 weeks time. Only one qualifier in September so I assume a friendly will also be arranged.
🚨 Exclusive: Crystal Palace close to completing permanent signing of Chelsea defender Marc Guehi. 21yo having medical today ahead of penning 5yr deal. #CFC have sell-on clause + matching rights on future move.📝 With @stujames75 for @TheAthleticUK #CPFC https://t.co/hDzD2Vw6mj— David Ornstein (@David_Ornstein) July 15, 2021
Another great signing for Palace. Part of me is surprised that Chelsea are willing to let him go, but I can't say I'm disappointed - this seems a safer route for Guehi's development.
Great news for England there, as he's more likely to leave and be resigned by them for a big fee to play than he is to actually be giving opportunities
It will be a challenging season for him though. Palace’s squad looks interesting but there is a lot of uncertainty. New manager and likely a new system/way of playing.
Very surprised by this, you'd have thought Guehi was perfectly made for Chelsea given his ability to play on the left of a back three. Interesting change of track from Chelsea too given they rarely sell their talented youth players so quickly. Still, he should get lots of first team football though I'm not sure it'll be the easiest season for Palace though. Would it be unfair to say that early signs are Tuchel not so keen on the Chelsea academy either?
I'd like to see a bit more emphasis perhaps on playing time with this group. Players that haven't played for a decent while, 9 times out of ten I don't see the point in calling them up at the expense of someone else who's playing at the same, similar or lower level (Championship as opposed to Prem etc.), but getting good game time and performing well for their respective team. No truly pointless or simply undeserved call-ups either. Wilmot, S Sessegnon and the keeper who's name I can't even recall from the last Euros squad spring to mind, plus occasions before that during the cycle when some players were getting call-ups that seemed undeserved or had had a lack of regular game time within the few months before.
Agreed. I'm very surprised personally that Chelsea are letting him go on permanent deal. I'd have just assumed it would have been his next loan spell
I think there could be something in this as apparently Bate and Livramento look likely to leave too. They have already lost Tomori, Guehi and Gilmour ( loan ) so it might suggest a different path than under Lampard.
Think the players are showing more ambition too. Chelsea used to offer them nice contracts for their age and then make profit on them through loan fees. They're probably looking at guys like Lewis Baker and want a different path that they're more in control of.
Seems almost certain that Carsley will be named the U21 manager. I expect an announcement very soon, possibly today at some point.
I honestly don't know much about Carsley. Is this a good appointment ? A step in the right direction perhaps ?
I think so but I’m not that sure to be honest but he can’t be any worse than Boothroyd can he? If they wanted to keep the appointment in house then maybe Justin Cochrane can count himself unlucky as he’s been with the FA longer and highly regarded. Probably would have been a good stepping stone for him and then appoint a new up and coming U19 manager.
Just that it’s the way they have done it in the past. Announcing it after the holiday break. Pearce got moved on after his last U21 tournament (mid June) and Southgate was eventually confirmed around mid August. It might be wrong though. I assume it is pretty much up to McDermott when to announce it.
In terms of midfield, our options are enticing. Various combinations of Skipp/Garner/Jones/ESR. Am I forgetting someone?
Maybe Tommy Doyle. Depends how they want to do it. What will be interesting is if the age groups start picking CM’s to play the specific roles. Rather than just picking the group playing the best and making a team from them. Or a group of the most deemed highly rated and picking from them etc.
Will be interesting to see if Angel Gomes can get himself back into contention. Will be interesting to see how he develops this season at Lille. I mean technically, he’s the sort of midfielder we potentially are crying out for.
Doesn’t really say much more than the articles about Carsley a while ago but it’s a new article. Lee Carsley set to be appointed England Under-21 manager | By @ed_aarons https://t.co/p0O4SWELHW— Guardian sport (@guardian_sport) July 16, 2021
I’ve obviously missed that the Mail and The Sun had articles on this today/last night too Still it’s all a bit odd as Carsley was mooted as confirmed weeks ago. Not sure what is going on.
Angel got duel nationality? Wounded if he does not get picked by England if he would be willing to change
