Was able to sell my “2nd round” tickets again! Yes, half price, but I didn’t think I’d unload them at all.
Meanwhile. DC United Announcement As we head into the weekend and the second fixture of the Capital Cup, we have an important update to share. Due to health and safety protocols, Alianza FC will be unable to participate in their previously scheduled match against D.C. United on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. The tournament has been adjusted accordingly and Sunday’s match will now feature the second leg of a two-legged championship between D.C. United and Alajuelense. D.C. United will bring a one goal advantage into Sunday’s match and the Black-and-Red are expected to field a strong MLS starting XI as we seek the first silverware of the Hernán Losada era. If the two teams are level on aggregate score following the second leg on Sunday, the championship will be decided by penalty kicks.
Side note: went to my nephew's graduation party in Annapolis this evening and met Jacob Greene, current DCU player and friend of my nephew since they were kids (still are). Really nice guy, wished him well, told him I had had season tickets for over 20 years, and my brother in law says, you've had tickets since before Jacob was born. Felt like a real old fart at that moment.
We won a trophy. The Capital Cup is staying home. pic.twitter.com/DAjngmdgkR— D.C. United (@dcunited) July 11, 2021
******** that. We won a trophy in a 4 3 4 3 2 team tournament of reserve teams. They earned that trophy. It was already paid for.

It was terrible logistics from the FO. I don't mind the idea, but it was bound to happen that some participants decided not to play after all.
It was good that they wanted some guys to get playing time against different types of opponents, but it was all thrown together way too late.
This outcome was predictable given the vaccination rates in other countries. FO needs to ask people who understand epidemiology and public health, is this likely to happen? Doesn't take brains, just leadership.
Its seems like there is a lot less reporting on the subject of the Covid crises in South America, India, and even Japan. Before Copa America, Covid was raging and that most of those teams avoided an outbreak beyond just 1-2 of them is really something. But the idea of hosting it with their infection rates seemed insane. And things were equally out of control in India where every day there were stories about the epic human toll. Then you have Japan which is in the middle of a surge that's barely being reported as the Olympics loom. It seems like its all being underreported the last few weeks. The idea that teams could come here from Central American nations without issue seemed a fantasy. On the high side, I sold our first gameday's tickets for $20 over my face and the 2nd gameday for $30 under so not a terrible overall transaction. I wasn't able to sell Puebla or Real Betis, while attending the Marseilles game, the last time we had these games. So I was surprised when they went at all. I wonder what opponent they'll contrive to fill out the last of 3 extra games the STMs had to buy.
The answer to your question is Alianza in a friendly on Wednesday! Taking on @AlianzaFC_sv in an international friendly on Wednesday, July 14 at Audi Field! https://t.co/czKkhp6rBZ— D.C. United (@dcunited) July 12, 2021
I saw that later yesterday. I've been wondering how that works with the quarantine and their late outbreak, seems a bit dodgy.
It looks like Alianza was saying all along that they planned to play United Wednesday or Thursday after needing tot wait for Covid results after a positive. I don't know why United wasn't also communicating this or why all updates are coming from the Eagle Bank Field accoutn before they come from the team.
They (DCU and Alianza) had to wait for a Negative Test. Bad timing, otherwise they would have played Sunday.
