It's almost as if the Nations League, Gold Cup, and 8 WCQ matches in a single year is too much while MLS play is also happening. Oh, and there's also a Leagues Cup happening.
I also want to say that some stayed away because of the surge in missouri, but I am sure the Chiefs will be sold out.
Having the teams play in one stadium/city three times in a week can't be great for attendance. You're removing some of the benefit of the barnstorming effect. Ticket prices are pretty darn high too.
MLS and Liga MX announce Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas will host the Leagues Cup final in 2021 and 2022.— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) July 13, 2021 Vegas is getting the events this year... I wonder why they're not going to Sofi instead?
I'm sure Vegas will take care of the MLS and LMX execs. I'm in favor of making allegiant our number 1 stadium because flying to and staying in Vegas is cheap compared to anywhere else.
Are they thinking the Liga MX team is going to draw that many people? Because I highly doubt any MLS team would sell anything more than 5k-10k tickets to a neutral venue for what's essentially a glorified friendly.
LOL! Imagine the financial disaster that an MLS vs MLS match at an NFL stadium would be. Even if its Seattle vs Atlanta (2 most popular teams) I don't expect more than 15k. And what if its Colorado vs Dallas? (Hypothetical scenarios, I know its not possible this year)
I doubt it. Maybe as a last pre-season game of the season sort of destination game. The LA Kings (NHL) used to do this in late September every year as the last preseason game of the year. It was called Frozen Fury and the game would be at the MGM Grand. It was a great excuse for a Vegas weekend and attracted wild crowds of Kings fans every year. Usually they played Colorado and their fans would come as well. For MLS LAvLA it could be the same but: a) the time of year is not as good for vegas in my opinion b) there is no way there would be enough demand for the NFL stadium.
Agreed. It would draw some folks, but not enough to make it worthwhile. And you'd likely just piss off locals who'd want to see that matchup anyway.
The first Leagues Cup final (Cruz Azul vs. Tigres) was in Las Vegas and drew 20K at the old UNLV stadium. I suspect the leagues aren't expecting huge attendance and would be happy with 20-30K and an excuse for a "business trip" to Vegas.
CF Montreal has been cleared to play home matches at Stade Saputo in Quebec, starting this Saturday against FC Cincinnati. Capacity: 5,000. #mls— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) July 14, 2021 Vancouver still not allowed to play in Vancouver. The other 2 Canadian teams are heading home.
Yeah I agree, it has potential, but not with the best teams going to CCL instead. Unless Chivas Guadalajara are in it, then it suddenly gets much more lucrative.
