Yes, but these seven goals equal their total from their last 11 competitive matches. They won't mind slaughtering someone.
That's the half of this two sixty-minute halves match. Presumably Sargent is done for the day on after his hat trick. The finishes were nice far post solid strikes.
i think there's a nice Jozy parallel here. Jozy spent a few seasons playing for really bad Prem teams, and then transfered to a pretty good AZ team relative to their domestic competition, and gained confidence on a team that mostly attacks rather than defends. He got to play as an attacking player FAR more than he did in the Prem. That's basically what I'd like to see for Sarg. If Werder is projected to be on of the top sides in BL2, I'd rather he stay. Time for him to get reps in an attacking environment
Nothing too special there, but one thing I always notice with Sargent is he seems to frequently get well hit shots on net, vs. ripping longer ones over the net, Bittencourt style.
All good powerful strikes, taken at the right time, on target, with margin for error. Nice finishes even if the opportunities are because the defense was two steps slower than WB's attack.
Good for Josh. His confidence at the end of last season must have been at an all-time low. But we have seen Josh score over and over again in the preseason and the competition today was hardly good. He is a tough nut to crack for me. On the one-hand he has been hampered for two seasons by being on one of the worst offensive teams I have seen in the BDL.... but on the other?... I still expect him to score more often. He is still very young for the position. Really hope this is his breakout year.
Agree with all that but I think it's good for him just to see the ball hit the back of the net and that in itself might be enough of a boost to help him this season. Only a friendly but confidence in himself has to be higher today than last week.
This isn't really Jozy's record. Jozy played poorly or not at all at Villareal, Xerez, Hull, and in Turkey before going to AZ.
He scored some legit nice goals for them. And then at Sunderland he legit missed a lot of good chances and contributed to their downward spiral. And then just when he was really back on form and possibly going to get renewed European interest he went down with the torn hammie in the WC opener and was never really the same player. Jozy is a really easy guy to root for and in another universe I think he ends up a decent EPL level striker. Just wasn't to be for him.
At this point, can he even have a breakout year if he ends up staying in B2? Not being sarcastic, It’s a genuine question. How many goals would it take? A boat load of goals will be a real good thing, actually mandatory, but until he gets back to B1 or equivalent, and can prove he can produce consistently, I’m not sure he will have arrived.
Depends on where he's playing and what his job is. If he's a No. 9 that's expected to score, double-figure goals and a good few assists. If he's a false 9, it's double-figure assists and a good few goals. If he's a No. 9 that's expected to lead the line with his back to the goal . . .
I'm thinking of other young strikers like Torres or Aguero or Rooney or Higuain or Lukaku. Of course those are exceptional selections but at 21, they were already among the best strikers in their leagues after several years of steadily building and building. I hope Sargent can get a BL club to take a shot on him and really make use of his skills. We are so desperate for a striker who can score 10-15 league goals a season consistently and then do the same for the NT in games that matter.
Desperate is the wrong word. You can even make a really stupid correlation analysis to suggest relying on a world class 9 is bad for your chances at winning trophies. Goals by traditional 9s in knockout stages Euro 2020 - Italy - 1 goal (Insigne) Copa America 2020 - Argentina - 2 goals (Lautaro) France 2018 - 0 (Giroud started as a 9 in every knock out match) Euro 2016 - 1 (Ronaldo in the Semis) Copa Centenario 2016 - 6 (Eduardo Vargas put 4 past Mexico (giggle), and 2 past Panama) Chile didn't have a world class 9, though he scored a bunch of goals, while Argentina has a very good in Lautaro who did come through, and Ronaldo isn't really a 9. Sure it'd be great to have a goal scorer putting them in, but it's not necessary for international success. I just want Sarg to be a productive allaround attacker, who's success can be found in contributing to the build up of an attack and goals.
Of course he can. And being in the 2.B for a year could be the best thing for him. Plenty of talent is developed in the 2nd divisions.
