The US ended up with 6 home-growns on the pitch in Vines, Sands, Robinson, Acosta, Busio, Williamson and Zardes. Cannon was injured, otherwise he would probably have been a seventh. Bello should also get some minutes. And think who wasn't there and who's time may come: Morris, Reynolds, Richards, Cowell, Clark, Pepi, Che, Tessman, Pomykal etc etc
You say this, but Canada looked more threatening in their game than the US did. Of course, bad Martinique or good Canada is a valid question. We’ll find out on Thursday!
Sylvestre played a stellar game in goal for Haiti tonight. USA could have had 2, maybe even 3 more goals had it not been for his heroics. I'd give Haiti a puncher's chance against Canada if they play against them like they did tonight. Of course, if their back line defense were a bit more stout, USA wouldn't have had some of the shots on goal that it had tonight, either.
That’s certainly fair. It’ll also be interesting to see if Haiti gets their players back for Thursday’s game. From what I understand, their starting CB and striker were among those that tested positive…
Nothing to do with goodness. There was a time when black players would be criticized based on stereotypes but the country has moved on to picking on other minorities. Edited: there were 120 racist tweets aimed at the players who missed penalties and a Marcus Rashford mural was vandalized.
Just checked another source. When they played for the US they were listed as without a club. I guess the Caribous at that point had folded.
True. Could it be possible that this Gold Cup could see a new nation nab the trophy? This is the 16th Gold Cup competition. Mexico have 8 titles, USA have 6, and Canada have 1.
Shamar Nicholson gives Jamaica the early lead. Also of note: The uniforms Jamaica are wearing is exactly what the Columbus Crew should be wearing (minus the green highlights). 8th minute---Suriname nearly equalize! Gleofilio Vlijter just wide of the net.
Jamaica with a golazo! Bobby Reid with a sweet volley from 20 yards out. 26th minute; 2-0 Reggae Boys.
That’s a penalty on Blake, he hits a guy in the face while failing to catch the ball. If someone hits the keeper like that it’s a foul on the attacker.
One of these days Jamaica is going to realize the potential I've been hearing about for the last quarter-century. Whether or not that comes before the Timberwolves win a NBA title is open for debate
Blair Turgott was one of Lletget's longtime West Ham youth/reserve teammates...seems his career has turned around as he was bouncing around English nonleague clubs a few years ago.
