Absolutely. Apart from the Saka sub which settled the right side down, Southgate has gotten this wrong since the first half
Feel for Sancho, Rashford, and Saka. Hope England embraces them instead of . . . what I suspect will happen.
Ok I understand the logic of bringing on guys who are more confident in penalties. BUT isn't there something to be said about guys who are cold vs guys who've been out there in a full lather. They're in the moment, it's their game.
Their manager put them in the worst possible position, that should be the focus. You expect two guys who haven’t kicked a ball in two hours to come in and do that cold?
England have way more talent, and did this: xG map for the Euro 2021 final England never got their attack going at all after scoring early and were deservedly pegged back pic.twitter.com/BaQVEA7NAt— Caley Graphics (@Caley_graphics) July 11, 2021 Four shots in normal time, all taken by defenders.
Why do you put a 19 year old kid as the 5th taker when you have Grealish, Shaw and Sterling in waiting?
After Messi carried some sad sack Argentine teams of the past, wasn't it about time someone else picked up the slack?
If you're going to bring Rashford and Sancho, why wait until 1 minute until end? Why not at the beginning of the second period of extra time just to get their feet wet. I don't wish Penalties at the end of a tournament match on anyone but why put an outfield player on where he barely touches the ball?
Well yeah, this is progress for them after years of underachieving. If they want to look at a model for taking it up a notch, look at France 3 years ago: Lost at the final in ET at home, win the WC two years later.
