I thought it would be fun to track what ex-Saints are up to.

Is Coventry that hard up for money that they'd turn around and sell Best so soon?

Coventry striker Leon Best admits he is 'over the moon' to be targeted by Nottingham Forest, but insists he is happy at the Ricoh Arena.

Best has been the subject of interest from hometown club Nottingham Forest with Coventry rejecting three bids from the League One hopefuls for the striker.

The former Southampton ace is believed to be keen on a move to Forest and he handed in a transfer request in a bid to win a move to the City Ground.

It'd be nice to have some of those goals this year

Tony Mowbray has allayed fears that fitness concerns are holding up a new deal for West Bromwich Albion striker Kevin Phillips.

The Championship leaders are hoping to extend the veteran striker's contract, which is due to expire at the end of the season.

Phillips, who has scored 16 goals in 20 league appearances this season, missed several weeks earlier in the campaign due to a knee injury

It is no exaggeration to say that Roman Abramovich changed the course of Brian Howard's life. Five years ago the young midfielder was virtually promised a contract during an extended trial with Chelsea only to be cast aside when Stamford Bridge came under Russian rule.

"I had three or four months there, training with the first team and it looked like I'd be signing but then Roman Abramovich arrived and began buying the best players in the world," explained Howard, now the captain of Barnsley. Tomorrow the 25-year-old can remind Chelsea of what they missed when Avram Grant's team visit Oakwell for an FA Cup quarter-final.

Ex-Saint Jason Eulls is hoping to make it to the prem this year.

Despite comfortably staying up in their first two seasons back in the second tier, Blackpool were again amongst the relegation favourites in the summer, but the Seasiders have made a mockery of those pre-season predictions, beating Newcastle and Sheffield United to establish themselves as potential contenders for a shock top-flight place.

Seeing Blackpool possess such a lofty status is not so unfamiliar to fans from before the modern age, though. They can testify that the Seasiders are by no means a bunch of newly-rich upstarts getting ideas above their station.

In fact, according to the history books, the top half of England's second tier is just about right for Blackpool for they lie 24th in the all-time English League table for accumulated points.

Furthermore, their average league position over their 122-year history is 34th.

The proud Lancashire club went on a long period of decline after they were last relegated from the top flight in 1971, which means many new fans see Blackpool as a lower-league club.

But that is something current captain Jason Euell and the rest of Ian Holloway's ambitious squad are hoping to rectify.

The thing that really worries me about Tony Pulis' row with James Beattie is that it got out.

What happens in the dressing room should stay in the dressing room and the fact it got into the press would worry me if I was the manager. It doesn't do much good for the team spirit.

I didn't see anything quite like that in my career. I've had arguments with managers and I've seen other players have arguments with managers, but I've never seen a manager and a player squaring up to each other. That's disrespectful in my opinion, from both parties. It shouldn't happen.

However, Hyndman does have options. He could also start the versatile Pearce, who finished the year as FCD's right back, into the midfield. Such a shift could mean Ihemelu stays on the right flank with the center back tandem of Davies and John, a combination that FCD fans saw for 45 minutes in 2009.

"I enjoyed playing with him," Davies said of John. "Unfortunately, we both had a battle with injuries. So we ended up only playing like a half together and that was it. I would love to play with George. I think he's a great player. He's a big guy and it always helps to have someone that physically dominant next to you. I'd love to play with him again."

Prior to coming to MLS, Davies spent two years with Southampton FC in England, where he signed as an 18-year-old and played mainly with the reserves. But Ihemelu, another addition to FCD backline during the season, likes what he saw out of Davies.

"He's another quality player. He has experience," Ihemelu said. "He was overseas for a bit. He's just a hard, hard defender. He's always going to work hard and he's great at winning balls. He has a nose for winning balls. He also has a lot of talent."

One thing that Davies admitted being taken aback of was how much Hyndman turned over his roster throughout last season.
