But those skirts - there be some Tiktok Golf Gals that are En Fuego

Nailed it - Consciously or Unconsciously - she was played up by both media & advertisers as the Anti-Williams sisters because what few fans Ladies Tennis has just couldn't stand that these two ladies beat the the unholy shit out of everyone. She fulfilled the "traditional" female for a lot of them - which is "pretty white girl that don't cause trouble like that bitch Tay-Tay with her opinions and thoughts and stuff" and that's all on top of the borderline pedo & trad wife concepts

Well, some of that is because they've made themselves a sounding board for various issues. I respect that. I do wonder why woso gets such huge coverage in a non-footballing nation where basketball is far more popular.

That's the only kind of pro softball there is. Men play baseball, unless it's a church team or something. But the comparison was to basketball, which by ay account should be running the show in this country.

You've said the bolded enough times and in enough different ways that I'm left wondering who it is you're trying so to convince. You're replying to me, and you know I live with it 24/7 and can tell you more about it than anyone in your bloodline can tell me, so I'm even more confused.

Jan Stephenson did a Playboy spread a while back.

This. I see Sharapova somewhere, I'm giving her a sandwich. Three guys here have already owned finding that prepubescent-but-somehow-with-breasts shape highly attractive. Yes, some grown women are thin, but there's a trend to mae children out of them.

Women's softball is slowly increasing in popularity outside of the SEC / OK & TX / Lower half of the Pac 12 and while the majority of it's players are white, it has ALWAYS been more diverse than Women's Soccer

I tend to agree with @superdave that with respect to her, the majority of it wasn't necessarily "prepubescent-but-somehow-with-breasts shape" but "Hollywood Beautiful" or "Haute-Coture" looks, which is a standard that constantly ebbs and flows. She just happened to be lucky enough to be in that "look" when she got famous AND the Anti-Williams girl. After a few years of trying to get away from "heroin chic" I saw some ad where they were trying to let that back in under "diversity" for anorexic white girls

There is a primary reason, with multiple follow ups. The primary reason?

Joy, excitement, jubilation, sexuality...and being done by a White, suburban woman, without being shy about it.

You're apparently unaware that the games sold out and the TV ratings were terrific BEFORE that.

BTW, this is the kind of thing I'm talking about when I say this forum is lurching toward Fox-News-of-the-left territory. Feelings are trumping facts. Too many truthy posters.

Grab a cold one and sip a bit. I said your bloodline. No need to be snarky about it.

My point is that you spent quite a bit on energy on "Not just race, not, not, not"

No. I’m saying that when you compare Serena to other tennis players, Serena is much more muscular. It’s something that Serena comments on fairly often. Tennis endorsement deals for women focus on players that have the “traditional” “feminine” body (aka skinny white girl) and the fact that Serena’s body doesn’t fit that, she loses out on endorsements her less muscular counterparts get.

Let’s put it this way.. Serena’s body is what a female tennis players body should look like if the advertisers treated female athletes the same way they treat male athletes.

So, you are minimizing that the picture which has been talked about for the past 22 years? Gotcha.

btw - I knew somebody who was involved in the ticket sales and promotion of that World Cup.

So, your minimizing the importance of that action represented in the picture means Fox News Left? Gotcha.

You're focusing on her arms for whatever reason, but all the other pairs of parts on her leave most female tennis players in the dust in terms of femininity.

I don't know how old you are, but if I was gonna vote for a "best build for sport" female tennis body, it'd be Martina's. No thought of attractiveness whatsoever, every sinew developed for the singular purpose of beating the next opponent.

USSF is a superior organizing body than USA Basketball. USSF also had the benefit of bundling the Women’s team with the, at the time, more popular Men’s team, while USAB does not have that ability because no one cares about the men’s national basketball team when it doesn’t have NBA players either.

So.. perhaps that’s why. The fact that the USMNT fields professional soccer players vs professional soccer players from other countries meant it was possible for USSF to bundle women’s games with those games means USWNT had a leg up over women’s national basketball.

When Martina first turned pro,she had an issue with stamina and was almost (body shame alert) pudgy. She got very serious about her fitness and became the machine most of us remember.

and her chest muscles, shoulders, back, and she doesn’t skip leg day. You seem to be equating the fact that she has large breasts and an ass with meeting tennis’s standards for femininity when that simply isn’t the case.

I don’t think we’re disagreeing here, you’re just not using tennis’s definition of femininity..

She was pudgy early on, and she did run out of steam in longer matches. It's shaming if it's about a woman just walking down the street (and she can hear you), but not if it's about an athlete who's out of shape. It's also a double standard that women's weights are not usually listed on sports rosters the same way men's weights are.

I remember her early days. Chris Evert said something about it years ago in Tennis magazine (I think that's who it was). It was an anecdote, she saw Martina during a tournament eating a big bowl of ice cream or something and thought, "If she ever gets her diet and exercise together..."

We may have been talking round one another. You didn't specify "tennis' definition" in the initial post I quoted where you said (paraphrasing) that "Unlike her sister, Venus kept her feminine body", so I kinda took it as your position.

I remember watching the early rounds of the majors when she would dispatch her opponents 6-0,6-0, sometimes in 25 minutes. Probably would've been barely 15 minutes in the old days before commercial breaks every time they switched sides of the court.

Oh, and my wife grew up in Newport RI and used to waitress near the tennis hall of fame (which also hosts pro tournaments. Chris Evert was in town for an exhibition. She ordered a single scoop of ice cream and left half, as Mrs. W. recalls.

My wife also almost changed folk music history when she barely avoided hitting a jaywalking Mary Travers, but that's for another thread.

Since we're telling tennis stories, friend of mine was hitting the ball while in high school, played on the school team. He noticed some tiny girl next to him smacking the ball from corner to corner. What the hell?

Was Andrea Jaeger, she later hit #2 in the world and made two Grand Slam finals, although she didn't win. He said it didn't take much tennis knowledge to know that she had game, even at a very young age.
