That's not his job. That's Mounts job but Phillips keeps finding himself near the 12 cuz he relentlessly presses n looks to clog passing Lanes high when they lose it. He's a traditional 6. Once Bielsa tools his attacking repertoire he will be the complete box to box
He should thank Bielsa. Was literally a nobody prior to his appointment at Leeds. 2-years later he's England's irreplaceable destroyer in mid.
Kalvin Phillips’ game by numbers vs. Denmark:100 total touches 90% pass accuracy 14 passes into the final third 9 ball recoveries 6 attempted long passes 4 successful long passes 4 attempted tackles 4 successful tackles Such a vital player for this England side. 🙌 pic.twitter.com/llC0YfIYlJ— Statman Dave (@StatmanDave) July 7, 2021 🗓 May 2020: Promoted to the Premier League with boyhood club Leeds United🗓 August 2020: Earns his first England cap🗓 July 2021: Plays every game as England reach their first Euros finalKalvin Phillips’ last 15 months is a fairytale. 🤩 pic.twitter.com/6Q6qiaOK7L— William Hill (@WilliamHill) July 7, 2021
If you did not notice, then Denmark was playing 10 vs. 11 the last 15 minutes due to an injury to Mattias Jensen
A lot of this England squad was eligible for a different NT or even played for a different NT at youth levels. Grealish and Rice represented Ireland at youth levels... Sterling was eligible for Jamaica also IIRC. Probably others.
Yea, Walker is Jamaican too... Wild enough Phil Foden is Caribbean or African(Like Giggs, wouldn't know off appearance).. Sancho is Trini, Jude is from some lesser island, Same for Rashford. Lol
Even duses not on this squad... I hadn't realized Ross Barkley was eligible for Nigeria through his dad...
It's funny you mentioned that, cuz of the time of his initial inclusion into the national set-up, he was accompanied by fellow Naijas, Tomori and Tammy Abraham whom fans rated more highly than Saka.. Both now seem distant from the NT while Saka is thriving. Tyrone Ming's is another. I wanna say Trippier too.
You don't notice how "nappy" their hair is till you get real close photo/video shots. I know a soft brush wave when I see it lol
Honestly, kinda surprised that Arsenal hasn't ruined him yet. Same with that young attacking midfielder Emile Smith Rowe...
Most of those duses keep it tight... But yeah, a lot of them are mixed race. Much more evolved than USA it seems.
I'm not complaining, it was tight as could be expected, so in the end it's the tiny details that makes the difference, so as for the injury, then shit happens, I just mentioned it, because I think most people probably missed it. I will complain about this though :
Saka is going to be a star once he finds himself on the field. He sorta plays with a lack of confidence but it's probably because he's like a Swiss army knife.. started at wingback for Arteta, gradually moved up the field to wing and then got slotted at CM and CAM depending on the team they faced. Once he consolidates his role at Arsenal he'll be a real menace. I don't rate Rowe too high, simply because I'm afraid he's a player that'll take more time to develop to be a starter in the Prem than normal. Had a great final stretch last season, but so did Joe Willock...
Alright that's enough for me.. Kaney is in overdrive. Copa Oro time.. What time does Martinique play?
******** it. I'll root for England in the final. Their fans are whack but their players are mostly likable.
ESR would probably benefit from being on a team like Villa who have ambition but ultimately have less pressure to perform than a club like Arsenal...
