So Ben Olsen won 3 games his first season, (3-8-1) Will Losada be able to beat that. He has 1 win so far and has not looked any where close to getting win number two. What do you think?
If you give us credit for our own goals, we've outscored our opponents 7-6. A lot depends on when Hamid, Pines, Birnbaum, Robertha and Arriola get healthy and in-form. It's going to be close.
Considering he's played down as many as 7 sure fire starters in some games, it's no wonder the results are bad. They'll surpass 4 wins. That's way too low a bar to set.
I took it to mean, do we end the first 12 games with a record better than 3-8-1? That's a legit question given the number of injuries isn't getting smaller - it's going to be close. I do think we'll improve over the season and end with a better PPG than Olsen in his first half season (which would be 8-23-3, that is, 27 points out of 34 games, or better). It's long been a bugaboo of mine that the team comes into the season out of shape and looking like they met on the bus, so I'm glad we're focusing on fitness and trying to create a more professional and focused environment. But there's clearly been a fallout from that - hard lessons for the players and maybe a little clarity for the technical staff.
I think you're being overly generous. The only thing in the OP that might possibly suggest your interpretation is the listing of Olsen's record. The rest of the post and the poll question itself do more to indicate it's a question of whether DC will win 4 games or more over the entire 34 game season.
It's MLS, you can easily win 4 games completely by accident - but it is not going to be a pretty season ... especially if the coach keeps being such a dick on camera.
An example of what's he doing on camera that is so Richard-like? I havent been able to view the previous two games. (ETA: I was going to say "watch" the previous two games but the sense I get is that the last two were unwatchable to begin with.....
Just his remarks about players as mentioned in the page(s) above - I'm not sure about anybody else but negative comments about me from the boss usually de-motivate me, not motivate me, to try to do a better job.
I don't think he's gotten personal or said anything beyond some generalities we might have intuited anyway. He's also said he's really pleased with the effort. I think out of context, some of the comments sound more confrontational than they do in the full interview. He's a straight shooter. Aside from my humility, it _is_ my generosity people find most endearing.
He also seems to have players like Canouse, Felipe, Gressel, and others buying in. So they will bring others around.
Wins v. losses, I'm still unsure even after pasting Toronto. But for sure, they are fun again and if you don't bring it you just might get embarrassed. Looking forward to playing more good teams like NYC and seeing what's up.
Much more enjoyable to watch if nothing else. One trivial fact, in 3 of the last 4 games, DCU has had an opponent red-carded. I think it's a byproduct of the press and the energy. First, it pisses off the other team and second, it creates turnovers and odd-man rushes that force players to take professional fouls to stop the attack. Bennyball never put the other team under that type of pressure.
I'm not sure a Ben Olsen team pours on 3 goals in 10 minutes on a 10-man Toronto like Losada's boys did tonight.
First 12 games for each coach Olsen: 3W-1D0-8L, 10 points, -10 GD, 4 shut out losses, 3 shut out wins, 3 losses by more than 1 Losada: 5W-1D-6L, 16 points, +3 GD, 3 shut out losses, 3 shut out wins, 2 losses by more than 1
Hey don't knock Danny Allsop! He tore the Aussie league up, with the likes of Fred and the dessicated corpse of Harry Kewell.
My feeling is we just make it into the playoffs this year and then lose in the second round. Next year, I think we get a higher seed and I will predict that we win next year's open cup. Losadas take no prisoners, win at all cost approach would be an advantage going against our fellow MLS clubs who don't put much into that tournament
They just have to get in this year. If they get hot at the right time a la 2004, there isn't anyone in the East I'd be scared of. New England, maybe, though that would be epic! I'd have to look at the records, but I believe the home field advantage that plays out in the regular season is less prevalent in the playoffs.
