Well now that Kessler missed the Gold Cup cut it will be interesting to see if his minutes change with the Revs. Part of me wonders if Arena was sitting on him cause he didnt want him to go? Bell certainly isnt better and costs us abut a goal a game. Time will tell on Henry starting with Columbus (less Zardes) I feel bad for Kessler cause he isnt getting the respect he deserves. On the Olympic qualifying he didnt start...until he got on the field .... then he quickly became a starter. Now we have GB not believing in Henry and took 8 defenders that werent Henry. Kinds says he is not in the immediate plans nationally

My guess is Arena took a team first position (who can blame him) and had a conversation at some point this season with Kessler about buying into the fact that it would sink his chances of making the GC roster but for the better of the team going forward he would need to lose some minutes in order to build depth at the CB spot with Bell getting experience.

If this is how it played out its an interesting angle on the whole club vs country. I know from previous quotes that Kessler wants to step his game up to that next level to be in the picture for the Nat's. He may just realize he needs a few more years to be seriously considered for the A team.

The thing I hadn't really considered yet is why Kessler couldn't have paired with him. Kessler is left footed - is Bell also?

Farrell is a veteran, and an on-field leader. I don't think Arena wants to take him out unless he has to. I like Kessler, but I don't know if he is ready to take on that on-field leadership role needed when paired with a rookie. Now that Bell has a few games under his belt, it might be more acceptable.

Bell has looked pretty good (except in Dallas), but I prefer Farrell/Kessler as the #1 combo.

Yeah, I thought of the idea of a veteran/younger CB combo as soon as I hit post haha. Good call. Going forward hopefully we get to see a Kessler/Bell combo to give Farrell a break when needed.

FWIW Kessler is right footed, but is comfortable playing on the left.

Its probably part of why Bruce gave Bell such a long look, he is actually left footed.

I would love to know how many passes they connected in the buildup to that opening goal.

That was not a red card. When he started he move for the ball it was free. Turner did not have control.

Farrell giveth and Farrell taketh away. How do you turn your back on the ball and get hit in the head? But then he saved the game with a goal line block.

Just a guess. Arena’s probably feeling the Revs. are fortunate to get out of Columbus tonight sharing 1 point with all the stadium hoopla and Crew topspin. But I cannot imagine he’s enthused about the Revs’ quality of play, particularly in the 2nd half... they just cannot seem ‘to get ‘er done!’

    • Farrell being hit in the head was just crazy bad luck. My beef is that Zardes had one hand on the back of each of Turner and Farrell, and fouled both of them. That goal should not have stood.

    • I liked what I saw of Kaptoum.

    • We are going to miss Turner and Buchanan.

    • Is Crew a bit whiny?

That was unlucky. A ball glances off your head as you are running back towards goal. Never seen that before. I think Turner could have gotten to the ball if Farrell had slowed down a little bit to hold back Zardes. Did Zardes push them...yup, was it enough to overturn the goal, probably not.

I agree with Jon Martin - whiny - and dive all over the place. I get so wound up when I'm watching a match and the players are diving all over the place. I'm usually screaming at the TV, card the SOBs. I've enjoyed watching the Euros, as they aren't calling all the ticky-tack fouls.

For a game that was supposed to be a national feed, I thought Brian Dunseth was quite the homer. I'm used to it on ESPN+, but I expected a little more balanced coverage on ESPN.

Bottom line, a tie in Columbus and Orlando and Philly both lost.

I agree. Zardes drove the pile into the goal... like a bulldozer pushing a pile. They said GB was at the game. Im sure his man crush an Zardes is enhanced

Last week I felt like Turner was culpable on the first goal, and I thought so again this week. His positioning was not great, though maybe he was screened a bit. He did have a game-saving save late, though.

Bou had what's become a typical game for him: basically no involvement or influence, except.... one goal.

I can't be unhappy with that point. Those were two of the prettiest Revo goals I've seen in awhile.

it took 20+ years but an MLS team finally got it right on the stadium.

There are still some problems with that stadium that need to be fixed (it wasn't fully operational as well). And it's nowhere as nice as SKCs, IMHO.

But I was still jealous walking into the place. Still hurts to imagine something that I think will never happen here.

About the game itself, I've been saying this since the offseason, and nothing has changed. This defense scares me. 8 goals now given up in the last four games. That's just not acceptable. The last 10 minutes or so was a complete sh*t show by the Revs, and we were lucky to walk away with a point. And that's not a feeling you should have when you were up 2-0.

I have to think Bruce and Co. are looking for a CB in the next few weeks. Farrell had a pretty darn good year last year, not so much this year. No idea what is going on with the whole Kessler and Bell duo but neither have been that impressive this year. I think Jones is as good as he is going to get, which is an average MLS player. Mafla has been a waste of roster space and money. 54 minutes all season. Cut bait and run! This may be a promising team at the front, mid and keeper but that back 4 is their Achilles heal and will cost them
