During the four limited-capacity matches this year, my specific STH seats in 206 weren't available, obviously, so I bought seats that were available in my section or in neighboring 207 or 205, using my STH credits. I just got a bill from the team informing me I need to pay the $48 difference for the four tickets or they'll take away the Capital Cup game tickets and "the last 0 regular season games."

It looks like they basically removed my STH discount for those first four games and charged me as if I was purchasing single tix, even though the seats I ended up with are normally the same price, and not even as good. Given the vagueness and slightly threatening tone of the letter from my rep ("ACTION REQUIRED" in all caps), it seems like a petty way to treat someone who retained season tickets through Covid. Has anyone else received a form letter like that, or were you all smart enough to buy seats in crappier sections so you wouldn't owe more money?

I don't have the situation that you do. I'm just popping in to say that's a pretty shitty way to treat a STH. I'm not surprised, but I am disappointed. Again.

As I have said here before I now spend my disposable income on a Australian Rules Football team, Carlton.

Carlton knows how to treat it's members, as we are called. First off we members are the owners of the club, same as the Green Bay Packers. We have a board that answers to us. A President who answers to us. We are not a Real Estate venture we are a sporting club first and foremost.

Also our club knows how well the members support the club. During the no fans in the stands part of the pandemic every member kept paying their dues, without missing a beat. The club came back to us and told us that, that kept the club afloat. They then thanked us many different times and ways for keeping them employed. During one of the matches that had a limited number of fans they put up a banner to cover empty seats. The name of every club member was on that banner. When we went to renew our membership for this season they gave us a gift membership for us to give to a friend or family member. We got extra discounts at the club shop. They did not send out threatening letters asking for money when a members seat go moved during the partial crowd matches that were played.

You see when we own the club they answer to us. We are not in this to develop Ikon park with shops and hotels. We only care about our footy club. We show it and they reciprocate.

Oh and would tell them to keep their tickets for the crappy pretend Cup as I don't give one damn about any of the teams they invited. Alianza FC, Club Puebla, LD Alajuelense, nope I have no desire to see any of them. If these matches are broadcast I will not be watching them.

Similar situation here. I bought extra tickets during limited capacity to bring my wife and kids to a game. I apparently owe the team $140 or they’ll take away my Capital Cup tickets and my ticket to the last game of the season. I don’t care about the Capital Cup, so this isn’t much of a big deal to me, but this petty money grab leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

The Green Bay Packers are an anomaly in US sports that will never happen again. Sports in America never have been about public ownership because virtually none of the major sports leagues grew organically from local sporting clubs. They were all business ventures from the get go. And, anyone, please don't say Seattle votes on their GM and President. Sure, they do, and the day the fans vote to remove the GM and the actual owner/operator disagrees with that choice, guess what will happen.

I actually paid LESS than my STM price to sit in my usual section for the limited capacity games, and I wound up with a credit to spend before the end of the season. Go figure.

Just to give one other data point, I bought tickets that were less than the pro-rated cost of the ST/game and so I ended up with a credit. Don't see the need for an aggressive tone in that letter, however.

I didn't go to any of the limited capacity games so I haven't received an email. The club alienates its fans at an alarming rate. This story does not surprise me in the least.

Yeah, I figured that if I bought more tickets than were in my plan, or more expensive seats, then I would owe money. It makes sense. I ended up taking a tour around the stadium that resulted in a credit. The tone of that email does suck, though.

    Dear fans,

We’re happy to have just about anyone show up for a game during a pandemic and before vaccinations are widely available.

And to our most special of customers, our season ticket holders members, a special fuck you as you must pay full freight for a seat better than yours despite the attendance cap.

    Fuck you,

    D.C. United Holdings
