Although we have an active midfield, it isn't one that really controls and possesses the ball well, and keeps it away from the opposition. We gave up too many corners and free-kicks late in the game. Can't do that and rely on defense to get points.
Agreed. Possession doesn't mean sh*t until it does. It's a tactical tool that we need to have in our portfolio.
A bad angle and then not wanting to take a foul ultimately were the reason behind 0 points. A loss of at least a point.
a couple of minutes ago Pines was obviously spent. Not a surprise he wasn't able to deal with that. Ultimately I don't think the team deserved anything from this game
This may be the worst half I have seen from DC (and that includes some pretty bad games) in years. It's been a long time since I've seen a team play such a disjointed half. Could we actually complete 2 or 3 consecutive passes? Can we actually stop Hamid from kicking the ball down the field EVERY time? Can we win a header downfield? Can we run off the ball to give a player an easy pass? Did we have to play such a high line that NY could just dump balls over our heads and then make it a track meet? Can we choose to give a simple pass? Can we actually cover someone on Corners (If NY could execute their headers inside the goal area we would have lost by 3 or 4 goals from all the open headers)? Where did we get the idea that we should try to defend a lead at 45 minutes into the game? Trying not to lose is what made Bennyball so, so bad. There were so many poor performances, bad tactics, and poor decisions made in this game you could write a book. I need to cool down after seen that shite.
That's exactly what I posted in another forum. He messed up twice. I love the guy but I don't trust him yet. He, and he alone imo, cost us a point tonight.
Hernan deserves some of the blame here, I don't know why but some of his tactics in the second half made no sense if we wanted to keep possession.
A good, young defender screwed up. Let's hope he doesn't ever do that again. I have a feeling we'll see more mistakes like that from all the younguns, but we'll be better for it in the long run. We have some quality kids.
Possession has been all NYCFC the entire match, second half reminded me of Bennyball. Like Pines, but he didn't have the energy to outrun the Brazilian newcomer that scored to win the game.
That was awful. Nobody making runs off the ball. Hamid has the worst distribution in MLS. We lost every 50/50 ball. I haven’t seen the stats yet but our passing was disgraceful. Losada adopting Olsen tactics by going long ball every play. Ugly, ugly, ugly soccer.
Hamid has always has bad distribution. He had bad distribution when he went abroad and he still does. That will probably not change regardless of the match.
We played Wednesday; they played Wednesday. We played last Saturday and so did they. We looked considerably less fit than NYCFC did. Kind of perplexing.
Even Losada is quoted as decrying the fact that we had almost everyone forward at the end and couldn't defend. Pines, perhaps our fastest player, just couldn't get his legs going and passed up a chance to foul (it would have been from behind and would certainly have been a red card).
Pines tried to grab Thiago and was shrugged off. I think he intended to take the card, but just didn't manage it. He was stationed too high for how exhausted he was. After playing 90 in three consecutive games with travel in-between, he should have been up in the box and Alfaro should have been back.
