I'd like to think he could do better than the French second division.

If it's the best chance he has for starting, I suppose he has to take it.

But seriously, a US international with Champions' League experience in his athletic prime should be able to land a first division gig.

I don't understand the fan expectation that Top 5 league teams should be blowing down Ethan's door to offer them their No.1 spot. He was just the back up at Club Brugge for 2 seasons. Charleroi, Empoli, Fortuna Sittard or Nimes are all perfectly reasonable moves.

After waiting for two long years, now we're supposed to be reasonable? We can't afford to fall further behind.

First division or bust! (e.g., Brest).

    He's 26.

He's won league and cup titles, as a starter, in Norway and Belgium. He has played - and played well - in Champions' League games. Games. With an S. As in not a fluke. He's played in 10 Europa League games. As a starter.

Counting cup and league games, he has 97 domestic starts in Norway and Belgium. Again, for good teams.

He has seven caps and just won the Nations League to go with his club trophies.

Does that make him a lock for a Top 5 league gig? No.

Should it warrant him a shot to be a starter of a first division club? Yes. Maybe at a lower tier Top 5 league or at an upper tier club in a league outside the top 5. He's shown he can play at that level.

Simply put, someone with Horvath's pedigree can and should do better than the French second division.

His achievements with Molde won him a move to Brugge... at Brugge he underwhelmed... was replaced and has sat on the bench for the last two season... he should not be expected to be invited in as a starter in a Top 5 league... can he do it at a squad like Empoli? Maybe... it's not unreasonable that he would go to a squad like Nimes though. I'm fine with either outcome.

I think people too much emphasis division there's not necessarily that much between the bottom rung of a Top 5 league and the upper tier of that countries second division. His pedigree/career achievements doesn't make him too big for a club like Nimes or another upper tier side in a league like Serie B, 2.Bundesliga etc. There are some very big clubs in those leagues, especially this season.

Like, is it really unreasonable the back up at Brugge would go and become the starter at a club lower in the same division like Charleroi? I mean, c'mon. If this dude wasn't American nobody would blink an eye at that.

He just has to make sure that when they promise him "you will start in the league" they don't mean he will start in the league for a single game.

But he's also on a free and I believe he has an EU passport. That has to add to it. His wages can't be too high so he seems a worthy risk for any top 5 league.

Horvath's mid-range passing to beat the press is excellent. Is better than Steffen's

Those are not the facts & between this and the other post you're advocating for superficial/bad scouting.

Optics are he underwhelmed at Brugge because he got supplanted. Reality is they saw an opportunity to pick up a Belgian nat'l team keeper & as a top Belgian side did it.

Beforehand, Horvath had a save % of 80 in league & about the same in European competition (which shows, w/ the int'l performances, he's clearly a starting top 5 league keeper at min.). Those are monster #'s, better than Mignolet in both regards, and even if Simon legitimately had the advantage, this was Liverpool's starter for a while, which doesn't relegate the guy behind him to not a starter in any top 5 league. There's a huge gap between Liverpool and the bottom teams of top 5 leagues. You want to further rationalize it wouldn't be a big deal if he also fell to the 2nd tier.

You're an amateur so you can make these mistakes of lack of nuance. But if the gm's at various clubs in a top 5 league who are battling to survive on a yearly basis can't factor in circumstance or even look at a stat sheet they shouldn't have those jobs. Or maybe they should, which is why they're always fighting relegation.

On top of that there was the whole shady ass thing with the old manager Leko? And the goalkeeper who was getting played. Karlo Leticia was his name

It was detailed in this thread by someone who was clearly in Ethan's camp

Indeed and Letica has barely played while on 2 separate loans in Serie A and apparently Brugge are gonna dump him.

Former Charleroi GK has suggested the club should consider Horvath:

    https://www.voetbalnieuws.be/news/605032/svilar-of-horvath-aantrekken-waarom-niet

"I think of someone like Ethan Horvath. He is 26 years old, has a good mentality and knows 1A. Moreover, he also gained experience. Mile Svilar? Why not? He had a good education at Anderlecht and has a lot of talent," said Vande Walle in La Dernière Heure

I wouldn't have ever seen it if you didn't spur my interest in looking it up. Really cool brief video well worth watching! That's a happy locker room full of guys. I'm glad to see that Horvath does have some emotion, because the dude was stone cold and focused in that match. He earned it.

The easy way: compose key on Linux, which you can define to some key you never use (Scroll Lock on desktop computers, Right Click on laptops). So I press Scroll Lock, then `, then a, and I get the à. To enter Unicode characters, it's as in Unix: left CTRL + left SHIFT + u, then type the _hexadecimal_ Unicode for the character. This allows you to type the very obscure stuff like, say, the fermata below and above .

In Windows, after many issues early in Windows 10, they have opted to follow the same approach, except that you have to keep CTRL pressed while typing the diacritic mark first, then type the letter (you have to press CTRL+SHIFT while typing the diacritic to make it upper case, though). So press CTRL, then press ` without releasing CTRL, then release both and press a, and you get à. But that only works in Office. For other apps/programs, you need to use either the code page number (right ALT pressed while typing 133 in the numeric keypad = à) or the Unicode _decimal_ value (while holding down right ALT type 0224 also on numeric keypad, the leading 0 makes the difference).

Windows, of course, has a much more limited set of Unicode blocks installed by default. You can try holding right ALT while typing 0119056 on the keypad to see if you get the fermata above. If you do, chances are you got it as good as it gets, on Windows.

PS: Of course such characters may or may not be supported by your software. I don't think any of the browsers can display fermatas properly, for example.

Which is why I recommend never using accented names in BS YA thread titles....

Too much work (and I'm not sure the Search function supports accented characters).
