Also, Mancini seems to be the only one who thought Zaniolo was a midfielder. With the knees I’m not sure what he’ll eventually be, but I think center forward is more likely than midfielder

I’d love to see a Zaniolo false 9

I didn't think Romagnoli was that bad this year, but it certainly was far from his best. He's played at high levels before so not sure why he struggled. He just didn't seem to react as quickly as he normally does. I do wonder if he carried an injury. He's only 26 let's not forget.

Zaniolo is not a center forward. He could be a seconda punta someday, but I think he is best as a winger in a 4-3-3. He could also play a trequartista role but he doesn't have the feet of say...a Totti. But then again, who does?

Zaniolo is best when he is running at people with his skill and speed. Will the ACLs take their toll? I'm not so sure. Today's modern medicine is very advanced. I don't think ACL injuries slow you down the way they did for say a Roberto Baggio. I think we have many good years of Zaniolo left. I'm more worried about the people he surrounds himself with (to be honest) than his injuries.

First thing I just want to say That Belguim v Denmark match . what a game the match of the tournament so far,
Italy has quietly been doing a great job of developing talent , they have had decent results in the most recent FIFA U19s and U17s tournaments and I think it is showing with the current National team . The way these guys have played is the most fluid I have ever seen a Italian team play in many years, Hopefully this trend continues for years to come .

What about Rugani or Caldara? They were tipped as being huge defenders as well. What ever happened to them?

This Euro has been a good tournament for The Serie A brand so far, I think of goals scored the most have been from Serie A players , and also the Most Man of the Match awards too.

My question is: does the Azzurri have an extra gear in them?

The results so far have been fantastic but we haven't really been tested in any meaningful way. The opening two matches we ran a train through our opponents. There's been virtually no resistance thus far.

In the past we had much better teams in terms of individual talent. We still never beat teams 3-0. I think if this Azzurri gets pushed by a better team, they will fight back and make the game difficult.

In his last game where he was injured, Zaniolo was playing right sided winger in the front three. But I also agree with the pundits in Italy that suggest he is the ideal mezzala. Big strong and can recuperate balls and drive the ball forward.

Who knows what players he will be when he gets back, but I don't see him as a pure striker or even a false 9

Honestly I have not been following super closely since the 2018 World Cup. Before the WC, I was watching almost all club soccer like crazy but since then I’ve drifted off. However, I’m starting to get back at it now and should watch a lot more games this coming season as well.

Well to answer your question Caldara never recovered from a serious knee injury he received a couple of years ago. Milan sent him to Atalanta. He got some action in the CL last year but he's a complete shell of any promise he showed as a youth. They are sending him back to Milan. Maybe he can do well on a team that plays with a back 4 and requires defenders to do less running.

Rugani was never good enough to break into Juve's first team and ruined his career in the process. He spent the year at Cagliari on loan and did ok but not worthy of a call-up to the national team. There is word that Allegri wants him back at Juve to no doubt reprise his bench warmer role.

They went easy on the Scots. Harry didn't have a good night's sleep. That was England at its absolute very worst and Scotland at their absolute best. All hail The Queen!!11!

I wonder if England tanked it on purpose to avoid a game vs Germany, Portugal or France. I highly doubt the favorites aka best team in Europe could play that badly for real.....

The atmosphere in the Hungary - France game was electric. All credit to Marco Rossi who has them playing really organized. France for all their fire power could only score one goal in two matches. (I don’t count the Hummels gaff)

Portugal completely torn apart by ze Germans. I don’t know how well the strategy of “counter attack and wait for CR to score a tap in” is going to work for them

How does the 'possible next round' finish 3rd place work? Don't they have to do like playoffs to earn their spots for round 16?

I'm a CR7 fan, it heartbreaking to him if his teams crash out of EURO given how much he wants to win.
They got to make it pass the group stage.

But what a tap in, started by him winning a header in his box from a corner
