I called for the 3-5-2 or 5-3-2 formation before De Boer went for it. And it has to do with having mediocre attacking players. Depay should have been on the pitch not subbed because in a tight game he can still make a difference. People can have bad matches & score. And if you Malen, you take off De Roon or Timber & change formation.

Depay-De Jong-Wijnaldum were the only decent midfield & attacking players & 2 out of the 3 had very good games. Wijnaldum was exceptional & De Jong was also very good. The De Roon thing doesn't work with a Back 3. You can play a back 2 & then have De Roon ahead. With a back 3, you should have De Jong playing as the DLP & Wijnaldum in the left & even a more attacking central midfielder in the left side.

Stekelenburg starting in 2021 is just weird & shows the quality of new GKs in the last few years. Blind is just too slow. He was getting caught out & against a quick team, he will be brutally exposed. De Vrij & De Light are a given. The 3rd spot can go to Timber or Blind or Ake. I would prefer Ake as he can cover PVA when he goes ahead & he is also left footed. Ake is a lot quicker & his cross just showed that he can play from the back. Obviously in the WC, you have Van Dijk instead of Ake with De Vrij/De Light starting.

The teams lacks a couple of world class wingers (which would allow Depay to play as Sole Lead ST) & a world attacking midfielder. England has Sancho not even in the subs & Sterling & Grealish as subs. I can't imagine as Orange Team which for the last 8-9-10 years hasn't produced a World Class attacker.

Mr.S you mention England but due to having an average midfield, the attack will be blunted against good side.

433 actually worked under koeman and i feel this 352 has memphis doing to much and being to far away from Wout

  3. I read some other EURO threads and some non Dutch posters are thrilled to see the Orange squad fail.
    Reason?
Well, one of them is pissed for years now that the England squad doesnot get the recognition it in his opinion desereves and just to own the Orange fanboys in the media he wants the Orange squad to fail.
    It's pathetic.
Some(?) yanks want the Orange squad to fail...to be able to claim it as proof the Dutch miss the best player if he was in the Orange squad aka as Dust.
It's pathetic. The urge to call someone in the yankshirt a world class player goes so deep they need a failure of another national team to sustain it.

It all comes down to one simple fact.
When the Orange squad gets on the pitch, the world pays attention.
    Why?
Because of decades of legacy built up of sustained expectations.
The Englishman should ask himself why the English papers after this Orange match wrote the second half was what this tournement needed, as were other foreign (non Dutch) papers.
You donot get international recognition as a country's national team because the Dutch fail. You do it by building up a reputation yourself.

The yanks should get off their American self entitling right/ownership of greatness.
Develop your own stars instead of gloating about/hoping for failure of a country's team you owe one of your players from with less America in him than an illegal immigrant trying to cross the Rio Grande.

    Anyway.
These suckers were dealt a blow in their pathetic longing on their chin.
The Orange Squad has since Koeman took over developed a German trait with the fact you havenot lost against us only when the last whistle has been blown.

  4. Anyway, the first goal scored against us was a whopper, but in my opinion it also was due to the fact Stek was too far away from the goal line. With the ball so close to the box there was absolutely no need to be that far in front of the goal.

The hatred by the British media and sponsor machines is noticeable, sure.

But the Dutch defense has questions. I mean it is missing VVD and de Ligt. So it is a bit weak looking. Plus Blind does provide enough range to cover the LWB when they push up.

It's doubtful that any keeper in the world would have saved the shot, it was that good.

  8. He was close to getting it, just about 1.5 meter short from the goal.

Ukraine had also a few decent or good games against Portugal, Spain and France recently. I think they will comfortably beat Austria if they play like yesterday.

The British media havent watched holland and it shows.

Neville doesnt have any idea of the squad and Keane (Irish) doesnt know weve beaten some top teams in the last two years. I dont see how you can judge a team after based on watching one game.

Thank god nigel de jong was on ITV talking sense

  11. Is there any chance Hungary ends up 3d, before either Portugal/Germany or France?

The one way to achieve this is for three teams in one group to all end up with 2-1 records and the fourth place team ends up at 0-3. In this way the Group of Death teams will have to avoid any draws against one another as the third place team might not end up with six points. I haven't looked at the brackets enough to figure out whether this is possible or not. I think the Dutch ended up in a similar position in one WC where all three top teams had 2-1 records and the Dutch advanced (1994 WC and there was also another group that had the same result).

  13. If the stars would align to give us Hungary (still got to beat them though), what would be the next confrontation then (hoping for a victory over Hungary in that case).

As a matter of fact, Ukraine are a lethal team which can beat the best teams in Europe like France, Germany, Portugal (as they did) without surprising you. I was so surprised to watch a game in which the Dutch dominated and were balanced and well-organized from defence to attack. Of course, it cautions us of the two goals conceded but it won't be surprising if Ukraine scores a goal. I think without De Ligt, the defence was still ok and De Vrij was outstanding in defence. Gerginio was great but I would say it was just sheer joy to watch Frenkie De Jong play seemingly so effortlessly.

When I looked at the page it says A/D/E/F I wonder how they choose which of those teams.

My understanding is that 1C vs 3D/E/F, 1B vs 3A/D/E/F....so let's say 3D has the best record vs 3E and 3F then 1C vs 3D. That leaves 1B vs 3A/E/F then so on....

The team is not there yet. I feel lucky that the team was able to get a win after conceding 2 goals. Let's see how good Frank is if he is able to address the weakness exposed in Ukraine game. If this team can grow (next game better than last game) perhaps it can be dangerous..

It was an outstanding/crazy, high drama match. Extremely happy with the result which was thoroughly 100% deserved.

Wijnaldum, Frenkie, De Vrij, and obviously Dumfries were top drawer.

Oranje bossing game and playing through the lines well just need to focus on staying compact on defense.

Blind is very scary and desperately needs help in the back.

De Roon faded badly, and again adds zero with the ball.

Depay not at his best but he is the danger man who is feared clearly and can draw space for others to take advantage of. He will be fine.

Frank needs to figure out De Roon's continued involvement and Blind playing in the back will be costly against better teams.

Imperative Oranje are aware of the need to recover defensively, and help Blind.

Other then that I would have brought Malen on earlier, but kudos to the boys.

    Epic match for Oranje.

I think there's a small, small chance. More than people think-- Hungary has home field advantage, the other 3 teams will beat up on each other and could overlook them. I don't think it's a great chance but it's more than people think.

I agree I don't mind the 352... Without good wingers, it's very hard to do much in a 433. Wingers/ST are clearly the massive weakness while CB/CM is the strongest parts of the team. So this system (in theory) works with it.

It comes down to would you rather play Wout with Memphis or someone like Klaassen who can play under him and score goals. Donny I think would have worked well with him. Unfortunately we won't know how that would have worked.
