In the first round of CONCACAF qualifiers the top 5 seeds all went through with only 1 loss total in 19 games. The only upset as far as advancement was #9 St. Kitts & Nevis knocking out #6 Trinidad & Tobago.
Something even crazier (to me). Looking at Wikipedia there have been 58 games in this round. Only 11 of those games ended with both teams scoring. 9 games had a score of 7-0 or greater with 4 of those being 10-0 or greater.
Excluding teams eliminated by walkover, Guatemala has the dubious distinction of being the first team ever eliminated from the World Cup without conceding a goal.
Is this actually true? I would imagine there have to be some situations where qualification started with a two-legged tie and a team went out on PKs after two 0-0 games. Also seems plausible a team could have registered a number of 0-0 draws in a small group and been bounced.
Looked through results on Wikipedia because I anticipated those scenarios. Several teams exited with 1 goal conceded, most of them after a single knockout round. The notable exception was Israel while competing in OFC, winning their group without conceding a goal but losing a playoff to South Korea, conceding one goal in their entire campaign.

I think it's likely that Canada, Panama, and El Salvador will win their way into the Octagonal this fall. Should be fun!
USMNT to lose their crucial "must get at least a point" final Ocho match in St Kitts and Nevis after "caretaker" manager Bruce Arena recalls Guzan, Gonzo, Bradley and Altidore.
Thanks for this summary...home teams are listed first or second? And I assume Canada home games are still going to be in the US, I can't remember when they said they would start opening the border again.
Couple of great passes from the US in the first ten minutes tonight, one from Antonee Robinson to Daryl Dike that ended in a goal for Aaronsen. Nice start.
This looks like a different Costa Rica than last week. This is the Costa Rica of the past couple of years. Regarding staffing at venues, Concacaf does the bare minimum at events they host. Although the event was in the United States, it was not a USSF event. It was Concacaf. Concacaf events are always shit shows because they don't pay for levels of security that are normally at higher profile events. That needs to change.
Neat little drop-back-pass from Aaronson to a great spot in the box - not sure why DIke assumed it wasn't to him.
I have no patience for complaints about availability of this match when it's on ********ing espn2 (WatchESPN) in English as well as unimas (which is OTA in many markets) and TUDN and their streaming.
Hulu started a five minute series of ads right then for some reason. Ismitje missed a goal and became grumpy.
