He can also be practically credited for an assist via corner kick on their 1st gol.

I agree he was sloppy and neutralized but that's always going to happen when he plays MEX because MEX will dominate US in ball possession. He has to make the most of the minimal chances he'll get. I thought he did that last night.

Is their any young studs on the come up at CB?

I feel like we've been rotating between Moreno, Salcedo and Araujo for years now. You can add Ayala to the mix.

Charly had him in check. Obviously Charly didn't win any aerial ball but in the grass McKennie couldn't pass though him, and we're talking about a guy with the physique of a kid.

I think Salcedo should have started this game... he is our best defender in the air, rarely loses battles there. I think Tata prefered Morena and Araujo because the play the ball out of the back better. I think for the most part since the Lavolpe days the national team has been much better in set pieces, but yesterday was just a disaster... I don't know if it was who was going to mark who or just coaching... you know zone marking instructions, but this reminded me of early 1990's problems when your tallest defender was 5'10. I'm going to assume it was just a bad night... but we will see. Martino is too experienced to let this repeat it self over and over. I think we do have to move on from Guardado and Chaka. Chaka is who he is... a good Liga MX player with good technical ability but a bit slow for the international game. Guardado does not win balls in the midfield, does not create enough and does not cover enough of the field. Age catches up to everyone, he was a terrific player once and I value his leadership, but we have other guys who can provide that and better play on the field.

Also, i am rewatching the match but the no-goal offside call is tight but Reams foot is closer to Steffen than Moreno is.

I do hope Montes gets another shot... he has played well on all national teams.

Uruguay has always had garra and fought hard and from 1970 to 2010, they won 1 single match in a World Cup and it was a last minute winner against South Korea (who lost all 3 matches that World Cup). They didn't get back until they started exporting better players and younger to Europe once again. Paraguay are also fighters and yet they haven't has that same success because they don't export as much.

It's that their Leagues are piss poor and Euro Clubs can come in and take their players for hella cheap and develop them in a better environment.

We've been over this Millions of times already.

Plus they produce better players, period.

The distance has been widening between (top) European leagues and elsewhere, but not long ago a guy fully developed in Argentine was almost ready to deliver in Europe. No wonder many Colombians took the Boca/River path before Europe, even if they could be sold for less money staying in Colombia.

I always say that you learn more about yourself in the games that you lose than in the games that you win.

Against Argentina when we were raped in one half, we learned that we cannot play our usual expansive football against the world's elites. A more conservative approach is better suited.

Against the nads we remember our Achilles heal, mother freaking set pieces.

I still believe in Tata. Hopefully we learn fast.

That injury ********ed him. I remember being excited about him in 2012. Torn his acl, came back and tore it again on a waterlogged pitch iirc.

    Hot take

We wouldn't have lost if Talavera was playing.
As great as Memo is as a shotstopper, he's pretty weak in the air.

We need a guy who can attack corners.

A player can be “even” with the next-to-last defender (not offsides), and run past the next-to-last defender immediately after his teammate makes a pass past the next-to-last defender.

It appears that Moreno's right foot was even with Ream's foot.

That's what I saw. His trailing foot kept him on to me.

They still would have lost... Ochoa is better than Talavera... I don't think any of the goals were because of Ochoa... none of the two centros were in the small box. If anything, Ochoa made two increidable saves and covered the defenders back well.
