The own goal was unfortunate but Beason also cleared a sure goal off the line in the first half.

We enjoyed the game - the galaxy fans are pretty loud & enthusiastic. Probably because they have a ton of tailgaters, creating a good community.

It's actually a good strategy if you're at that angle, to just slam it in-between the keeper and the defender. All kinds of bad things can happen (to the defense).

Which strengthens the point that the players and not the coach are the problem. Rule no1. about shooting and finishing. Don't shoot at the goalie and ALL of these guys just side foot into the keeper. That's not a coaching problem.

It’s possible that we are just an unusually bad finishing team but usually these things even out over time. We had some early season bangers.

I remember seasons when we had good teams with LD etc. and we’d go 3 games without scoring. It happens.

    Rios :(
    Almedya (for playing Rios) :(

    Flo wasn't great :\

    Beason :)

TT has a really tough time with the new LA winger. If that guy finds his shot, it will spell doom for us in future games.

To be fair Rios had a strong shot on goal from distance that Bond could barely parry forward and it fell to Salinas, who managed to somehow find Bond’s hand (I’d have to see it again to really rate Salinas’s shot). But that was a “put-in” goal situation that Rios created. Should have gotten us a point.

Edit: The Rios shot was from almost 30 yards and forced a diving save from Bond. Salinas had the ball just outside the 8 yard box with Bond on the ground and looks like he hit it pretty much right in his wheelhouse so he only had to reach up with his right hand to save it.

But I get it. Rios only does bad stuff - that’s the prevailing narrative / group-think.

That must have happened in the 1st half, which I didn't see. In the 2nd half all of the trouble was coming down the other side. Wouldn't surprise me - TT generally struggles against quick attacking mids. Last year it was Pavón.

    Bright Spots:
Tommy Thompson came to play-was impactful and played on the front foot
Judson-Shut down a lot of play in the middle and was part of the effort that shut down Chicharito
Haji-showed more than promise-Can he do it for extended minutes?
Beason-Decent showing bad luck on the misdirected own goal

    The Flipside:
Rios-Continues to disappoint, we are better off without his contribution
Fierro-Was turning the corner more or less last season but has been a huge disappointment this season, time to rethink his minutes
Espinoza-Starting to go down the Fierro path, this season has not been a good one so far. Defenses are game planning to make sure he is contained. Not adjusting his game to compensate

Almeyda's system created the chances when we were looking for the equalizer-The shots were straight at the keeper. That's not what is practiced, this is on the players

The Galaxy were there for the taking, they had their moments but so did the Quakes, taking a point from this game would have been just-now the beat goes on

Agreed on all that. Sounds like TT had some trouble with LA's left winger - not sure - didn't see the 1st half. But he's been playing more confidently and taking more chances the last 2 games, and starting to occasionally show a little flair again. Finally, not playing so tentative anymore.

And happy to see Judson out there again. Now he needs to stay out there. Haji showed that he can be useful as a sub.

All of the teams below the Quakes in the Western Division have games in hand on the Quakes. If all of those teams were to win those in-hand games, Quakes would be in last place after 8 games played.

How in the f@#$ did the foul on Marie immediately prior to the shot not get called? It’s never ever legal to put your forearm into another player’s chest and shove him to the ground. WTF?!

And Dos Santos should have been sent off in the first half. (At least, I it was he who slammed the ball into the pitch and didn’t get a yellow for it.)

But we didn’t play well, our shots were lousy, soft, and mostly at their ‘keeper.

    Grrrrrrr!

But I expect us to lose, so I’m going to bust a gut over this.

Nice shot from Rios. (I’m watching on delay as I type this.) Shea should have finished it.

Rios is less terrible in midfield than at forward, but he still sucks. He’s a professional player. He’s supposed to make good shots and score, he’s supposed to get assists, he’s supposed to good on the ball. The fact that he’s absurdly slow of foot and thought makes him bad. Full stop.

Oh, Beason is fine, and I'd take him over Alanis any time at this point. My point is that we're not getting results, 4 losses in a row is no good. And if we made more of the chances we've created, there would have been points earned. Instead, we manage to even lose by own-goaling.

I was intense while watching the game but feeling so numb after the final whistle. Too numb to comment on the good or the bad. Well, good or bad, it doesn't matter. Regardless, it is still 4 consecutive loss and 1 goal scored.

So, I will just wish everyone a good Memorial Day weekend.

    Of course he is!!

    Almeyda trains the players.
    Almeyda chooses the starting lineup.
Almeyda picks who to sub and when.
Almeyda sets the strategies and tactics.
Worst of all, Almeyda has picked many of the players on the team.

And, it’s up to the guys to execute. Our shooting was atrocious today.

But the blame for how bad our team is, and the hole we are in, and the fact that two plus seasons into the Almeyda regime, we are still shit. SHIT!!

That’s on the coach, the GM, and the owner. But under no circumstances does Almeyda get a pass for this train wreck.

I noticed a couple of things about the Galaxy fans. First of all, their green & black striped jersey was really popular — apparently it just came out in feb and is called “the Community Kit”. Secondly, i saw very few Chicharito or any other player name jerseys. The player jerseys I saw - other than Chicharito - were guys from long ago, like Jones, Keane, etc. I guess putting a player name on a jersey is not as popular as it used to be, at least in LA, maybe it costs a little more, or maybe because the players are not as big role models as being a club fan? Or maybe LA fans replace their jerseys more often than SJ fans.

I certainly haven't bought a new San Jose Earthquakes jersey since the 2016 authentic primary one (though I do plan on buying at least one current San Jose Earthquakes authentic primary jersey soon once money isn't as tight). :)

    GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! :(

Not really green - more like turquoise. Green would be Austin. But of course. Vertical stripes are slimming. In LA, image is everything.

They looked green to us… hubby thought at first they were Timber jerseys, and They made me think of the Mexico jerseys…
I guess if the Quakes were smart, they would make a jersey that borrows from the Warriors

So close to getting a point on the road against a hot LA team except for an unlucky deflection.

That point would have put us ahead of Portland and change the mood of the team and fans for the break.

Quakes were unbelievably lucky the score wasn't worse. they gave up so much real estate in the middle of the field, LA could play route 1 ball, and they missed a few easy chances, hit the post, etc., Quakes were a little better once Shea and Wondo came on but overall, lucky it wasn't a more lopsided loss.

That Salinas shot with an open goal save for a prone GK, right into Bond’s right hand, was a killer. Almost as bad as his miss in the Quakes opening game in 2008. Rios’s excellent shot set it up, but of course he’ll get 0 credit for it from the intelligentsia here.
