    Genoa 2-1 Napoli

Napoli dominated the statistics with 68 percent of the possession, more shots (24 to 4), more shots on goal (11 to 2), and 68.5 percent of the dangerous attacks (74 to 34). Goran Pandev scored in the 11th and 26th minutes, and Napoli had 7 shots on goal without scoring in the first half. Matteo Politano scored in the 79th minute, but Mattia Perin made 10 saves ad Genoa held on. They have 24 points from 21 games. Their form of 13 points in their last 5 games is second to Lazio, who are on a 5 game winning streak that started after their 1-1 draw at Genoa.

    Torino 0-0 Genoa

Not scoring against the 17th place club wasn't good. Genoa is 11th with 25 points and is 10 points above the relegation zone. Torino has only 2 wins, and they have drawn half of their 22 games. On Saturday at 6:00 P.M. local/12:00 P.M. USA Eastern, Genoa hosts ninth place Verona. Verona leads Genoa by 5 points and it could be 6 or 8 depending on Verona's game tomorrow. Genoa's 31 goals allowed are 4 fewer than third place AS Roma.

    Genoa 2-2 Verona

Genoa trailed 1-0 and 2-1. Milan Badelj scored his first goal for Genoa in the 90+4th minute. Genoa is 11th and is 11 points above the relegation zone with 15 games left.

I chose to root for Genoa because I like Genoa Salami. I also like lasagna. Verona has forward Kevin Lasagna, who shot off the post today.

    Inter Milan 3-0 Genoa

Inter Milan is in first. Genoa fell to 13th because Bologna and Udinese won. Genoa is 8 points above the relegation zone because 18th place Cagliari won at last place Crotone. This week has midweek games, and Genoa hosts stadium-mate Sampdoria on Wednesday at 8:45 P.M. local/2:45 P.M. USA Eastern. Sampdoria is 10th and 4 points above Genoa. Genoa got a 1-1 draw at Sampdoria, so if Genoa wins they will be 1 point and have the head-to-head tiebreaker. All clubs have played 24 of 38 games except for four clubs who will play makeup games on March 17.

    AS Roma 1-0 Genoa

I expected a loss. Genoa has only 3 points in their last 5 games. They're 7 points above the relegation zone, but 18th place Torino has 3 games in hand that are today, a makeup game on March 17, and a game that hasn't be rescheduled.

    Genoa 1-1 Udinese

Goran Pandev scored in 8th minute and Udinese scored a penalty kick in the 30th minute.

After being up to eleventh four weeks ago, Genoa is down to fourteenth. Genoa is 8 points above the relegation zone, and eighteenth place Torino has three games in hand. Torino hosts first place Inter tomorrow and hosts eighth place Sassuolo in a makeup game on Wednesday. After that, Torino will have one game in hand, and they will play a makeup game against Lazio at some point.

Genoa's next game is at nineteenth place Parma on Friday at 8:45 P.M. local/3:45 P.M. USA Eastern. USA sets their clocks forward tonight, so the time difference to Europe will be one hour less for two weeks, which includes national team games. Next weekend is the weekend of club games before the break.

It's very strange seeing Kevin Strootman playing for Genoa as I’m so use to him on Roma....

    Parma 1-2 Genoa

Graziano Pelle gave Parma the lead in the 16th. Gianluca Scamacca scored in the 50th and 69th. Parma dominated shots on goal 8 to 2 according to ESPN and 9 to 3 according to Flash Score. Genoa has 31 points from 28 games. They passed Fiorentina for 13th. To pass Genoa back, Fiorentina needs to win hosting second place AC Milan. Genoa is 9 points above the relegation zone, and 18th place Cagliari has a game in hand at 15th place Spezia. Cagliari is in the relegation zone by 4 points, but they will cut it to 1 if they beat Spezia, and they can also get within 1 point of Benevento, who goes to third place Juventus.

https://www.fifa.com/worldcup/news/ten-seasoned-stars-who-deserve-a-world-cup is titled "Ten seasoned stars who deserve a World Cup." It says:

    "Goran Pandev
    North Macedonia
    37 years old
    114 caps
    36 goals

    Group J
Germany, Romania, Iceland, North Macedonia, Armenia, Liechtenstein

    Other key players
Ezgjan Alioski (Leeds United), Eljif Elmas (Napoli), Enis Bardhi (Levante).

    Pandev
The deep-lying forward was on fire at Lazio before joining Inter Milan and helping them complete a famous treble in 2009/10. Pandev is still impressing in Serie A for Genoa.

North Macedonia have never finished in the top three in a World Cup qualifying group, but they are fresh from reaching their first major tournament: UEFA EURO 2020."

The section of Slovenia's Jan Oblak lists three "Other key players" for Slovenia including Genoa's Miha Zajc.

    Genoa 1-1 Fiorentina

Mattia Destro scored in the 13th, and Fiorentina equalized in the 23rd. Franck Ribery got a straight red in the 52nd, but Genoa couldn't take advantage. Fiorentina had more shots (11 to 8) and shots on goal (3 to 2), and neither club had a shot on goal in the second half.

Genoa is 13th, and they remained 2 points above 14th place Fiorentina. Genoa has 32 points from 29 games, and they're 10 points above Cagliari, who is the top club in the relegation zone. Up next is a trip to Juventus, who is in fifth, but they will be in third if they beat rival Torino today.

    Juventus 3-1 Genoa

Dejan Kulusevski gave Juventus the lead in the 4th minute. Genoa scored the third goal of the game, and Weston McKennie, who is American, scored Juventus's last goal in the 70th.

Genoa has 32 points from 30 games. With 8 games left, Genoa is 10 points above the relegation zone. 18th, 19th, and 20th lost this weekend. Genoa has consecutive trips to clubs in the top three as they are at AC Milan on Sunday April 11 at 12:30 P.M. local/6:30 P.M. USA Eastern.

    AC Milan 2-1 Genoa

AC Milan scored in the 13th, Mattia Destro equalized in the 37th, and Gianluca Scamacca scored an own goal in the 68th. AC Milan led most of the statistics, but Genoa had more shots on goal, 6 to 5. Genoa is 13th and is 7 points above 18th place Cagliari with 7 games left. On Wednesday at 8:45 P.M. local/2:45 P.M. USA Eastern, Genoa hosts 16th place Benevento. Benevento is 2 points behind Genoa, so Benevento could pass Genoa.

    Genoa 2-2 Benevento

All the goals were early. Benito Nicolas Viola scored in the 5th, Goran Pandev equalized in the 11th, former Genoa player Gianluca Lapadula gave Benevento another lead in 15th, Pandev scored in the 21st, and the last three quarters of the game didn't have any goals. Benevento has 2 fewer points than Genoa and a goal differential 14 worse, so for Genoa to get a draw at home is disappointing. Genoa is in 14th with 33 points. Fiorentina in 13th and Spezia in 15th also have 33. Genoa is 8 points above Cagliari, who is the top club in the relegation zone. On Saturday at 3:00 P.M. local/9:00 A.M. USA Eastern, Genoa hosts Spezia, so Genoa has a chance to not be one of the clubs a little above the relegation zone.

    Genoa 2-0 Spezia

Gianluca Scamacca scored in the 62nd and Eldor Shomurodov scored in the 86th. Right after the second goal, Manager Davide Ballardini was ejected, and I don't know why. Spezia had 65 percent of the possession and 68.9 percent of the completed passes, but Genoa had more shots (11 to 7), and more shots on goal (6 to 1). I would expect it to be very rare to have six times as many shots on goal and under half as many completed passes.

Genoa is 13th with 36 points from 33 games. Next Sunday at 12:30 P.M. local/6:30 A.M. USA Eastern, Genoa is at sixth place Lazio.

    Lazio 4-3 Genoa

Genoa trailed 2-0 and 4-1. Goals in the 80th and 81st made it close, but Genoa didn't equalize. Possession was close with Lazio having 51 percent. Lazio had big advantages in shots (18 to 10) and shots on goal (12 to 5).

Genoa remained 13th and is 5 points above the relegation zone with 4 games left. They played at 12:30 P.M. local/6:30 A.M. USA Eastern today, and they host 8th place Sassuolo at the same time next Sunday. Matchday 36 is Tuesday to Thursday May 11 to 13, and all clubs finish on Sunday May 23.

    Genoa 1-2 Sassuolo

Genoa trailed 2-0 and scored in the 85th minute. They are in 14th with 36 points from 35 games. They remained 5 points above the relegation zone because the bottom four lost or are trailing (last place Crotone is down 1-0). Genoa is at 12th place Bologna on Wednesday at 8:45 P.M. local/2:45 P.M. USA Eastern. At the same time, 18th place Benevento is at 2nd place Atalanta. Benevento has head-to-head tiebreaker over Genoa, so a 6 point lead with 2 games left would not clinch safety. If Genoa beats Bologna and Benevento doesn't beat Atalanta, Genoa will clinch safety on Wednesday.

    Bologna 0-2 Genoa

There was action quickly as Cristian Zapata got a yellow for tripping in the first. Genoa got three yellows including in the first minute of each half. Davide Zappacosta scored in the 13rd, and Gianluca Scamacca scored a penalty in the 61st. Bologna has much better statistics with 63 percent of the possession, 58.6 percent of the shots (17 to 12), 69.2 percent of the combined free kicks and corner kicks (27 to 12), 70.7 percent of the completed passes (447 to 185), 67.1 percent of the attacks (139 to 68), 74.3 percent of the dangerous attacks (84 to 29), and a higher percent of attacks that were dangerous (84/139 = 60.4 percent to 29/68 = 42.6 percent). Genoa had more shots on target 9 to 8, and it is rare for both teams to get at least 8 shots on goal.

With the win and Benevento's 2-0 loss at Atalanta, Genoa clinched safety with two games left. Genoa is 14th with 39 points from 36 games. Benevento has 31 points and can pass any of Cagliari (15th with 36), Torino (16th with 35), and Spezia (17th with 35). Spezia hosts Torino on Saturday, and either of them will clinch safety with a win. On Saturday at 3:00 P.M. local/9:00 A.M. USA Eastern, Genoa hosts second place Atalanta. On Sunday March 23 at 3:00 P.M. local/9:00 A.M. USA Eastern, all the clubs end at the same time, and Genoa is at Cagliari. Cagliari goes to AC Milan first, so it is likely that Genoa and Cagliari lose. Genoa beat Cagliari 1-0, so if Cagliari goes into the last game 3 points behind Genoa and beats Genoa by multiple goals, Cagliari will pass Genoa. If head-to-head goal differential is tied, it goes to goal differential, which is Genoa with -11 and Cagliari with -15. If Cagliari beats Genoa by 1, that will make up 2 of the 4 gap. Goals scored is the next tiebreaker and is tied, so if Genoa and Cagliari finish tied, Cagliari beats Genoa by 1, and they have same goal differential, Cagliari will probably have more goals scored. If Genoa and Cagliari lose with Genoa losing by at least 2 more than Cagliari, Cagliari can pass Genoa with a win by 1. Head-to-head away goals is not a tiebreaker.

    Genoa 3-4 Atalanta

Atalanta led 3-0 and 4-1. Atalanta had much better statistics, but each club had 7 shots on goal. Genoa is 14th with 39 points from 37 games. They end at Cagliari next Sunday at 3:00 P.M. local/9:00 A.M. USA Eastern when all clubs end at the same time. Cagliari is 16th and will be 15th, 16th, or 17th when the game starts.

    Cagliari 0-1 Genoa

Eldor Shomurodov scored his eighth goal in the 15th minute. Cagliari had better statistics. Before today, Genoa was 14th and could have finished anywhere from 11th to 17th. With the win, Genoa is 11th with 10 wins, 12 draws, and 16 losses for 42 points. They scored 47 and allowed 58 for a -11 differential. The lowest they can finish is 13th. If Genoa had played a 1-1 draw, they would have finished tied with Fiorentina on all the tiebreakers and a draw (sometimes called drawing of lots) would have determined who finished higher. Genoa and Fiorentina played two 1-1 games, and a 1-1 draw today would have given both clubs 47 scored and 59 allowed. Fiorentina got a scoreless draw at 19th place Crotone. Bologna has 41 points and hosts 5th place Juventus tomorrow. Since Genoa beat Bologna twice, Bologna must win to pass Genoa. Udinese is at champion Inter Milan and will pass Genoa if they win. I saw on a site that all clubs would end tomorrow at 3:00 P.M. local/9:00 A.M. USA Eastern, but that isn't true. Serie A had three games today, will have one game at the time tomorrow, and will have six games at 8:45 P.M. local/2:45 P.M. USA Eastern tomorrow.

Genoa finished 11th. They were closer to relegated Benevento 7 spots and 9 points below than to rival Sampdoria 2 spots and 10 points above. It was Genoa's best finish since they were 11th with 46 points (4 more than this season) in 2015-2016.
