Last minute tried to get a ticket to the game. Got to the ticket window 5 minutes before 8 and was told the game was sold out. Since I live only about 3 miles away not a big deal but of course I get home and the Red Bulls are up 1-0... Ugh. Come on Revs! Lets get it going! On a side note, I am glad to see they are selling out during Covid.
Well, that was a good crappy first half. And did the Caps leave some players behind and put them in Red Bulls gear?
When are the Revs going to train to head to one of their own? Buksa heading into open space, read to a Bulls midfielder, is just one of too many cases in point.
Great result! Going forward, if Arena can put the Arena-Mind-Meld on these guys to continue their qualities of play and to think more together, the Revs 2021 will be formidable!
That was delicious. My only worry - without Carles, this team is average at best. When things get serious, teams are going to start kicking him in earnest.
Damn I love me some beatdown of the New York New Jersey Metro Stars. Buchanon, Bye and Jones have all raised their game a level this season. Bruce should have subbed Gil out. Opposing teams are treating him like a pinata. It's just a matter of time before some thug kicks him onto the ir.
After that first yellow on Reyes, I had a gut feeling he would get another one before the game ended, and he didn't disappoint. Traustason had a beautiful assist, but otherwise a lousy game. Bou with a goal and an assist. Buksa's second straight game with a goal off the bench. Farrell was solid. They kept Coronel busy (8 saves), and had 23 shots in total, but still seem to be lacking in the final third. Let's hope they can put 3+ on the board in Cincy, without needing the help of a red card.
Arena had Kizza at the table ready to go in for Gil the second time he went down. The card was filled out. It never handed in. For som reason he decided not to make the sub.
Some random thoughts on the game. Can the Revs be ready to play at the kick-off, or are they going to wait for 15 or 20 minutes to get started? I did like how they pushed the ball up the field in the second half. Yes, I know against 10 men, but I would like to see more of that attitude during games. I loved the Bou to Buksa pass for the 3rd goal. Playing for the team, not just contracts. I can't believe that Arena left Gil in the game up 3-0. When he went down the first time, untouched, I thought oh no. When he went down the second time, I was ready to call 911 for an ambulance....for me!!
Two reasons, IMO: - guys making good runs to goal to make passing a high probability - failure to read the scouting report on Buchanon: he's a shoot-first, shoot-second, ... kind of guy. Goalie blunder, end of story. I've read that Gil was insisting on staying in (not that Arena doesn't have the ability to make the decision anyway, but if my superstar wants to stay in, I'm going to keep him happy). Incredibly poor, sloppy start by the Revs for the first 20 minutes or so. Seems like the rough play of Reyes finally snapped them out of their funk. I loved the unselfish play by Bou to gift Buksa the final goal, not only for the intent, but the execution was letter perfect - as the opening wasn't that big. Imagine the screaming if that pass hadn't gotten through? - as someone noted, we've been getting plenty of open headers in the box. We need to start finishing those. - we really struggled with the RB possession; they were able to hold the ball for long periods of time. Grabbing that early goal was exactly the start they needed - we struggled to win possession, then gave it right back time after time with sloppy play. If not for two really stupid fouls by Reyes, RB had a golden chance for a road upset IMO. - we could have/should have added a few nails to the coffin. Too many squandered chances in the late going when RB was all stretched out. We even managed to bollix a 4-1 break. - sweet feed by Traustason to send off Bou for the tying goal. For those wondering why he's still in the lineup - that's why. Imagine if that loose ball fell to Polster? - was hoping for better from Kaptoum - he made some decent plays and few bad ones, but not terribly impactful. Kaptoum should hopefully get better as he plays more, but right now Maciel seems like a better choice. - In the early going, Traustason was so poor with his touches that I was wondering if we'd see Boateng finally at halftime. But, scoring in first-half injury time changes everything. - love that the RBs were engaged in extreme time-wasting early on when they got their lead, then had that backfire on them when they fell behind.
