I think Schalke's problems began around 5-6 years ago. When they let go of too many players for free. Guys like Goretzka, Matip, Kolasinac, Meyer should have at least brought them some money, even the latter ones when they had value.

They also kept signing expensive players that ended up being duds and they can't even offload them properly. It was like the worst of both worlds. Management were just thoroughly incompetent.

HSV seem to be stuck in a rut now after languishing in the 2BL for several years. They no longer have the financial abilities to sign influential players anymore and even when they start the season well, they still find a way to choke up their chances at promotion again.

The Bundesliga is going to have the toughest of times generating interest from international audiences with Bayern having such a tight grip on the Meisterschalle. Title race is what drives up interest.

ESPN Deportes journalist Ricardo Ortiz said it best a few years ago: "the Bundesliga has many great things like well run clubs, affordable ticket prices, great fan atmosphere among other things, but that is meaningless if in the end it's all Bayern."

In 2002, the 2 World Cup finalists lacked having a club from their country's capitals (Berlin and Brazilia) representing them in their 1st Division.
Bremen will be the same. They are broke. If they do not survive another BuLi season, they could become the next Leeds United.

TBF, Brasilia doesn't have much of a football tradition, and in fact the most popular sport in Brasilia is basketball, not football.

Yeah it's a common mistake, and it also happens with Australia, where everyone thinks the capital city is Sidney when it's actually Canberra.

It's Sydney not Sidney :D Sidney is the ex Bayer winger, Sidney Sam :coffee: I know about Canberra living in neighbouring country of Aussie. Brasilia is quite shocking for me. Thanks anyway!

Well, when club management are stupid enough to bring in POS players like Davie Selke on loan with purchase obligations if they survive in relegation then they deserve to go broke. Team is doomed if they do doomed if they don't.

    found this interesting,
After the experiences of the unsuccessful 2020/21 season, Hertha BSC wants to concentrate on German-speaking professionals for the summer newcomers
    https://www.kicker.de/dorsch-im-hertha-fokus-4000000037393/transfermeldung

The critical words of coach Pál Dárdai after the successful survival with Hertha BSC seem to have found approval in the management level of Berlin. The Hungarian had questioned what he considered to be too ambitious goals and also criticized the approach taken by the Berliners in the past transfer periods. In an interview with “Sport Bild” Dárdai tried to illustrate his opinion: “It used to be like this: When you go out with a woman for the first time, you pay for the food, but of course you don't immediately know whether it fits. It's the same with the players. ”Meanwhile, sports director Arne Friedrich revealed an early extension with Matheus Cunha on Thursday.

At Hertha, not everything was right recently, that becomes clear when you look at the table at the latest. To increase the likelihood of making the right transfers, Hertha is aiming for a new strategy, according to a "kicker" report. According to this, German-speaking professionals should have priority in the future. And the first two candidates who meet this criterion have already been considered.

sounds like issues from non-Germans and spending TONS and TONS of money on non-Germans who flopped.....

Predictable pointless waste of time on both. That game time should have been used on Academy players. Both Portuguese speakers done at Bayern.

Gladbach. They have experience in Europe and a slightly deeper squad. They may see this as a big comedown after playing CL though.

Would be a tough balancing act for Union and Freiburg, same as when teams like Mainz and Freiburg qualified for Europe before. Stuttgart are a bigger club but not sure they are ready to compete on different fronts again either.

Nothing against Lewandowski but i really wanted Gerd Mueller to keep that record.

    Lewandowski 41 goals = 8 from penalties

Gerd Mueller 40 goals = 0 from penalties

Muller is better playe, also think its shame most of his 1BL and Euro records getting broken. Although 1BL all time scorer could be only one he keeps.

I remember many here said that if Müller's record was to be broken, you'd rather see a German do it.

And now it's official. Next season we will have the Nordderby in the 2. Liga.

Schalke04 has distracted the public from the abject failure that was Werder Bremen's season. The entire management team should get fired immediately. They held onto a failing coach because he was the homegrown bright talent and endangered the economic survival of the entire football club in the process.

    Unfathomable.

Max Kruse carried Bremen just look at his HUGE influence with Union. Bremen never had a replacement for him. Fullkrug has/HAD lots of potential but injury prone.

wish to see Stindl and Kruse get dfb recall even if Olympics.

and Baumann is such a bad manager. And Kohfeldt way way to fixated on playing Sargent in XI in every match, kid just isn't good enough as main CF. Only scorers vs bottom clubs and Frankfurt X2. Osako not convincing.....never was and Selke has been garbage for years.....something always brought up is how they always sub in more and more CFs when you need creativity/difference makers aka AM/W.

True, still doesnt change the fact that he scored 40 without penalties while lewandowski would have 33 without penalties....but as smoga mentioned Lewandowski did play less games.

Another factor which makes me sympathetic for Mueller is the era he played in.
Bundesliga for much of the 70's was the strongest league in the world (as a M'gladbach fan you should appreciate that)...todays Bundesliga year in, year out is a cakewalk for Bayern where they can run up cricket scores at will.
