As far as I know, a Morelia team will play in the new second division, the liga de desarrolo. There were a few teams pitched to the Michoacán government, including one from Fantasma Figueroa but ultimately they chose another groups pitch. According to John Suttcliff there are a few names being thrown around, including Aguacateros de Morelia at the same time liga de balompie Mexicano (the New Mexican league starting in September) was claiming that a new team called Ates de Morelia was going to join their league but reports have stopped I wouldn’t know how to get involved either, since there is so much news and rumors.
Hello fateswarning. Thanks for the reply. It seems there is nothing concrete at the moment and there is little to no coverage of it here in Scotland. It’s good for Michoacan to have some rumours of a new club for the city but it is a travesty that the club name and badge, monarcas and what it symbolises for the region are just gone. It begs the question of fan ownership in Mexico. Morelia were a well supported team not a ‘franchise’ despite the legal position. I understand Mexican football is different and relocations occur, however for a club steeped in history and culture to have that all dissolved and taken away is sad. I hope Monarcas can return!
very humbling to hear that news of our little clubs disappearance has reached you in Scotland. Thanks for your support. and yes, it's not uncommon for storied clubs to disappear in Mexico, which is a shame. the 2nd division is having another meeting in late July to discuss details (i.e. start date), so expect to hear whether or not an incarnation of Morelia will be included by then
Higuera got permission to use the name Atletico Morelia by tv azteca, and now they're deciding which franchise to kill. Oaxaca or Chiapas (again). what a mess.

Don't know much about the new owners but glad to see the team back with the name Atletico Morelia. https://www.diarioelmundo.com.mx/index.php/2020/06/28/atletico-morelia-al-de-expansion/
Great news, so this new club will essentially be Monarcas Morelia playing under the new name Atletico Morelia? Wonder if players on the roster will stick around or have they moved to Mazatlan? I am happy the region has a team again. Fuerza Monarca!!
Hi Ross, Not exactly, Monarcas Morelia moved to Mazatlan with the roster and name...the new Atletico Morelia roster will be that of the former team franchise called Atletico Zacatepec. I don't know all the details on how the move happened from Zacatepec or why but they moved or sold the franchise. *Taco for Thought* The way that owners are moving teams is killing the new or future fan base. How can a new fan follow a team that might move a few years later? This will have new fans follow the bigger teams like America or Chivas as a safety net. But you also have teams like Cruz Azul that don't have a home stadium as still have a huge fan base.
What a great game so far, even if they don’t win it, proud of them https://www.mediotiempo.com/futbol/...-morelia-vs-tepatitlan-fc-vivo-liga-expansion ..
Was really stoked for the game, sucks we lost but proud of them as well. Bummer about the late penalty
