Mendy has a shot at saving that goal too. It would have been a great save but he makes those sometimes. Kepa never does.
Chelsea are still an average attacking team One mistake or wonderstrike away from a loss. As seen these last two games.
I agree with you. VAR in England is the worst. It worked well in 2018 WC. Seems to work well in Bundesliga. But England has made a complete mess of it.
And their fans are the most old-fashioned because the game started there, so they had the most built-in aversion to it. There could be such a backlash you wonder if it survives there. But it will elsewhere. It's been more of an asset in MLS too.
The game was over the minute Leicester scored. LFC was then going to bunker, and Chelsea have not shown they can break that down, as evidenced by the last Arsenal match. Tuchel got it wrong. Werner was the worst I’ve seen him in a long time. Ziyech was really poor, and doesn’t fit this system. I think he’ll be gone next season. So 2 of the front 3 were poor, but got to play for 70 minutes. If it’s any consolation, all the takes I read are blasting TT for not starting Pulisic. When Pulisic starts and plays decent but doesn’t score a goal at assist, the takes seems to be “he’s crap.” But when he doesn’t get the start/minutes, they scream “where is Pulisic, get him on!”
Oh I know..... it that was poorly written. Meant to say for Leicester not at meaning as in the club not Rodgers,
Lol no it is not. Also, the clear and obvious standard doesn't apply to offside calls. ARs are instructed to keep the flag down if in doubt so that it can be reviewed via replay. Him not raising the flag in this situation doesn't mean that he judged it onside, it means that he didn't judge it at all.
My understanding is ARs are instructed to keep the flag down for tight, marginal offside calls, so that the play can develop. But once that play is over, they are then instructed to raise the flag if they judged it offside, and to keep it down if they judged it onside. I don't know if there's such a thing as not making a judgment one way or the other. https://www.premierleague.com/news/1297403 When an immediate goalscoring opportunity is likely to occur and there is a tight, marginal offside call, the assistant referee should keep their flag down until the passage of play is completed. Once the goalscoring opportunity is complete - either a goal is scored or the chance is gone - the assistant will then flag to indicate the initial offence. If a goal is scored the VAR will then review the offside judgement. As for the Clear and Obvious part, that I'm not certain about. I see that the IFAB had advised that they should be using a clear and obvious standard, and that this isn't new advice, but I don't know if the FA has taken that to heart yet. https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...ear-and-obvious-offside-errors-say-law-makers VAR technology should only be called on to reverse “clear and obvious” mistakes regarding offside, according to the general secretary of the law-making International Football Association Board. . . . . . . In general terms, that advice will be that technology cannot definitively make a ruling on offside as it can over whether a shot has crossed the goal line, and that therefore VAR should only be used to correct “clear and obvious” mistakes. “Clear and obvious still remains - it’s an important principle. There should not be a lot of time spent to find something marginal,” Brud told PA Sport. “If something is not clear on the first sight, then it’s not obvious and it shouldn’t be considered. Looking at one camera angle is one thing but looking at 15, trying to find something that was potentially not even there, this was not the idea of the VAR principle. It should be clear and obvious.”
I worked with an RAF WWII vet, a POW, in the early 80s. He was the best meat cutter on Cape Cod. He arrived here because the patriarch of a well-known family arranged for him to serve as the gardener at the famed compound. The visa, the permanent residency, all that was lined up. He was a gentleman. He was from Leicester, supported the Foxes. I am therefore content with Saturday's result, with Leicester's achievement.
not to drag us down a rabbit hole ... but someone a week back or so was commenting on the inaccuracy of VAR on the offsides call due to knowledge of when that ball is actually struck (for a cross or an over the top ball or a through ball) .... with video at a frame rate of 30 - 60 fps .... we are talking 15 - 30 milliseconds per frame .... at a speed of 5 m/s ... one frame on the video (30 fps) is about 6 inches ... how well can the booth VAR refs determine that 6 inch time slice and when the ball leaves the foot of the player making the pass ..... who the heck knows? .... but given we are talking inches and the timing of the departure of the ball from the foot I wonder how they are instructed to make the call. And how zoomed in is the static frame to look at the player making the pass to determine actually when the ball leaves the foot ...
I will do you one better - my wife's grandfather died at 102 .... he was born in 1897 .... he was from Boston and until he was 95 he had multiple TVs in his living room stacked on top of each other ... he was watching baseball all the time ... in the center screen was always the Red Sox. He served in WWI.
Rodgers is by value measurement the best manager in the Prem the last two seasons. His roster cost is what 12th in the league? Arsenal or ManU would be wise to contact him.
