Yeah it almost seemed like they toyed with that a year or so ago, when their Miami-based shows stopped airing regularly. Or maybe that was purely Covid dysfunction. The only thing I really watch on BeIN in recent years is Monday Night Football (keeps me minimally up on LaLiga & Ligue1) and the occasional Concacaf qualifier. The main thing I wonder is what will happen to Ray Hudson? Or did he move on already?
And those CONCACAF games are going to be on Paramount+ now. The CONMEBOL tournaments would be a good Spanish language/market offering for Peacock to compliment their English centric EPL coverage
FOX should hire Ray. I would love to hear him scream and say all of his catchy sayings during the Copa America, World Cup, and next cycle of South American Qualifiers.
https://www.paramountplus.com/shows/concacaf-qualifiers-road-to-qatar/ doesn't say what games in June they will have. They had 18 of 28 games in March, and they can still be watched. If they don't have every game in Round 2 (three two-leg series) and the Octagonal, I'll be mad.
They've had the live events for a couple of weeks now, but I'm still not seeing it under Channels on either my browser or on my iphone app. (Same with Perú Mágico.)
So where do yall see BEIN going from here? The interview with World Soccer Daily suggested they are going for growing, niche, and emerging sports in the market, but they are here to stay. Do they try to get Portugal from GolTV when that becomes available? Or Ajax and the Dutch league? What about Scottish Premier Lague or even Greek soccer. Both leagues would be niche but do have a pulse in the US market.
Portugal was renewed on GolTV as of last year. Although the world soccer talk article re the renewal didn’t state the term, the previous deal was for 3 years. So assuming the same, GolTV still has Portugal for two more years. ESPN just started Scotland this season, so one would assume that isn’t up for grabs. ESPN is finishing the third year of Eredivisie, so if that is up for renewal, maybe ESPN takes pity on BeIN and doesn’t renew those. Greek is currently the only one you list without an English language home (if Netherlands isn’t up for renewal).
French complained about bein coverage a couple of years ago also. I wonder if they will try to look for another tv partner.
Which article? When Harris first announced it, he said it was a five year deal. Then it didn’t happen for months, and he said there was some hitch. When it was officially announced, they didn’t list any specific term.
Does anyone have any idea of the volume of viewers of BeIN vs. BeINXtra? I would think that, theoretically Xtra could have more viewership since it is offered free-OTA in many of the major markets of the country and, of course, free via streaming services. I recognize that many people don't use OTA or their signal sucks in some cities. But still. I am glad they are playing the Lille match tomorrow on Xtra given the title implications. I see that PSG is on the cable channel, but they easily could have populated Xtra with some other meaningless Ligue 1 match. Given their loss of La Liga I wonder if it would make sense to put all of their eggs in the OTA/free-stream basket and put their featured content there in the hopes you could get higher volume viewership that might bring in ad revenue that surpasses the cable subscription fees.
I sent them an email (which I’m sure they will disregard) suggesting Russian League, Top 14 rugby, Super Rugby and some kickboxing.
That would be great news. I know Ligue 1 doesn't have anywhere near the appeal of La Liga, but if BeIN can stay in business with Ligue 1/Ligue 2 + Turkey and then tap into "emerging sports" (whatever those are), it would be a net plus for us, Ligue 2 followers. Fingers crossed.
Ligue 2 playoff game between Grenoble and Paris FC, Tuesday, 2:45 pm EDT, not listed on any BeIN Sports channel for now. Hope it's just a slight delay to add it to the schedule. Time slot is wide open on all the BeIN alternate channels. Is there any reason why they wouldn't carry it? Will be nervous until Tuesday--if not available, it'll have to be RMC radio broadcast, just like 2019, and not sure I'll renew my BeIN subscription for next year.
Atletico Madrid could win La Liga today but BeIN not showing the match on either of their 2 main cable channels. And of course some key relegation fights not on TV or streaming (partly due to Madrid and Barca games also being on Connect 4 and 6, respectively). I am a little sad to see BeIN lose La Liga but in situations like this ESPN will be superior.
I suspect Ray will go to ESPN. They seem to be lacking commentators based on the evidence I am seeing. ESPN has some guys that I enjoy listening to on espnFC but they are not great at match commentary. I am trying to imagine if Ray would be good on espnFC. Not really sure about that, tbh. The ESPN personality that is probably most similar to Ray's is the Venezuelan/ex-MLS player whose name escapes me right now, but you all know who I'm talking about. He is a bit polarizing but if he is good enough for ESPN and espnFC, then I think Ray certainly is good enough. All that being said, I don't need to see or hear Ray Hudson during the Euros.
I would call beIN TV channels showing a multicast of the penultimate round of matches - which will likely concentrate heavily on the Atletico Madrid match - a very good choice of programming. A little harsh to simply say they are "not showing Atletico Madrid". If you want to watch them clinch the title without interruption, just go to beIN-5. SA
Yeah, that's why I specifically said they aren't on either of their 2 TV/cable channels and made the comparison to ESPN (since ESPN has better streaming that is also more readily available on Smart TVs). And a year from now we will see all the relegation battles too. The Barca match is like the 8th-most important game today and its eating up a TV channel and a streaming channel. I know Barca has way more fans than Atleti but I don't think anyone could complain if Atleti match was the feature match on one of the TV channels and Barca's match was shown uninterrupted on Connect. Both Barca and Madrid fans are hugely interested in the Atleti match, so its a bit of an exceptional case.
I know where you're coming from. I'm just a big fan of multicasts (every CL matchday is a multicast day for me) and think that it's the best option on days like today when so much is at stake at both ends of the table and kickoff times are not staggered. I'll probably be complaining next season at this time when ESPN does NOT offer a multicast but rather 10 different streams. Hard to appease all fans. SA
Turns out BeIN espanol is featuring the Atletico match so my rant was for nothing (although my guide still shows Barca v Celta for that channel).
Ray Hudson to ESPN? Could be I guess. But would they end up muzzling his "colorful" language? Like "simply orgasmic"?
