Roma mostly direct. Reynolds involved. His teammates seem to be more comfortable with him then a month ago and he is getting a lot of passes. Reynolds hasn’t pushed the issue on his flank yet. Might be a tactical thing.
I think he's doing pretty well in a vacuum. Not running away from the ball, much more decisive with it. There were a couple defensive lapses, but also aggressive interventions. Just wonder if the coach wants him to overlap more. He's hanging back a lot, making them more secure in defense, but not drawing defenders away from their attackers. As a result a 0-0 is a relatively fitting scoreline for the team's and his performance. Ironic he's playing his best ball yet out of position. More relative success there & it improves our + his outlook w/ the NT in the interim.
I thought I read an analysis somewhere that Reynolds was pretty decent with either foot. I have not seen him strike the ball decently with the left foot. I agree he is more involved but it seems there are times he should be bombing forward in transition to support the left flank.
He has a long way to go but nobody expected him to perform immediately in light of his limited previous experience. The fact that he is playing at all is fortunate. Roma seem willing to invest some time and effort in developing him, if they aren't just trying to see quickly what they've got so they can decide how to proceed with him over the summer. He needs a year of European soccer at some level. Eventually he may prove to be all purpose flour you can add in and use up and down the wing from cb to attacker. With Reynolds my sense is that everything will depend on how much interest he has in the game itself.
Defended his position well, and found midfielders with decisive and quick passes well. Didn't really try to beat anyone off of the dribble, and wasn't effective on his efforts getting forward up the wing. I think this was better than the last match I watched, despite playing on the left. I think he may have been coached to be conservative, which may have driven it. His key going forward, I think, will be making dangerous runs up the flank.
Reynolds on the bench for Roma's Serie A season finale away to Spezia. The match starts at 2:45 pm eastern on ESPN+. AS Roma are in competition for seventh and a Europa Conference League play-off round spot. Standings coming into today's game: 7. AS Roma 61 pts +10 GD 8. Sassuolo 59 pts +6 GD vs. Lazio Serie A uses head-to-head points and head-to-head goal difference as their first two tiebreakers. However, since AS Roma and Sassuolo tied their two meetings the tie breaker would go to overall goal difference.
really feels reynolds is being put in a situation to fail. on the left, largely stationary. he is a plus athlete with a great right footed cross. this isnt playing to any of his strengths and is underscoring his difficulty in adjusting
Five months and no posts in here ... but ... Reynolds starts today in the Europa Conference Cashgrab. Make the most of it, buddy.
Bodo/Glimt are in first place fairly deep into their season in Norway. Roma are not impressed, apparently.
Reynolds gets up the wing, and makes an accurate cross to Perez, who gets shut down by a triple team quickly. On the counter back the other way, Reynolds falls down and gets beaten down the line.
Eighth minute go ahead goal for Bodo/Glimt. Came down the opposite side from Reynolds, defense was pretty well carved up on the other side. Reynolds maybe could have flashed over to block the shooter, but probably wouldn't have made it and would have left two attackers wide open.
This Roma defense just looks bad - Rui Patricio completely bails them out with a point blank save or it would be 2-0 in the 15th minute. Reynolds has looked too passive, and I'm not sure he's won a tackle.
Well, now it's 2-0. Great shot by Patrick Berg from the arc into the upper 90, but he was given too much room. Central defenders probably should have been more aggressive trying to shut him down. Again, the play developed on the opposite side.
Reynolds gets a pass up the wing to flash his speed, but his first touch goes right to the defender to touch out for a throw and stall the attack.
Late in the half, Reynolds closes out a threatening Pellegrino run up the wing, winning possession as the deflection goes to Ibanez. But they're down 2-1 at the half and won't have a fun halftime.
