You're probably right. Though, smack is used sometimes to refer to the person saying it that they've done something stupid. Likely not the intent above. I always thought it was shake, but encountered smack, like facepalm. Of course now I can't find any references to it. Being nearly fifty I probably shouldn't have even replied. Too old, smdh.
A friend of mine, by no means a Porter hater, said Caleb Porter is "too much of a bezerker to handle himself in situations like these..." I completely agree. Our club, our fans deserve better representation on the international stage.
Please. The refs dicked him over, and he called out the refs. That's never happened in the history of the sport before, I'm sure. And since the only reason we're ON the international stage is because Porter gameplanned the shit out of MLS Cup with starters missing, I'm happy to have him.
SMDH = Shaking My Damn Head CB9K = CoachBot 9000, the make and model of our current manager - an emotionless, calculated robot programmed to do one thing: win trophies.
This game was lost the moment Zelerayan got that yellow card. Porter made a HUGE mistake allowing zelerayan to play against Esteli when we already had a 4 goal lead. It’s concacaf. Give them room to ******** you and they will. It’s what they do. They exist to ******** us.
I hadn't thought of this but, yeah, good point. No reason to risk our talisman when we've got the win in the bag.
At least Porter managed to throw the team under the bus, blaming execution for the loss when he wasn’t moaning about Monterrey being further into their season than the Crew. Little accountability for Porter himself, as usual. Nothing new under the sun.
As a fan, I was hoping. As a realist, I did not expect it. Kinda like Gladbach vs Citeh in the CL this year (though there were no home games for either side).
I mean Master Technician Caleb Porter has won only once on the road since September 2019, so I was hopeful that maybe he was due? To quote the late, great Tom Petty...”Even the losers get lucky sometimes”
Cross-posting from multiple threads! You fancy!!! I wish our manager and squad displayed that kind of ingenuity and style on the road.
Deep down you know better than to have expected the Crew to go toe to toe with any of the top 3-4 in Liga MX, right? The disparity between the two leagues is very real and you have to know that. We did have to execute perfect last night for any hope of moving on, and that didn't happen.
He came on as a sub at halftime and I think the rational was to go for the win. Something about the team's W/L record would help with seeding or home field advantage in later rounds. Hindsight it may not have been worth it but there was a reason I guess.
It was always a tough ask, but as I say when looking at UEFA Champions League or Europa League when looking at clubs I support (Roma and Benfica) you don't go to those competitions to measure yourself against Levski Sofia and Brondby. The allure of those competitions is measuring yourself against the big clubs. Maybe we could have been afforded a better draw in this competition and faced Atlanta or Philly on our way to the semis instead of a powerhouse like Monterrey. Then again our path to MLS Cup last year couldn't have lined up better in avoiding Toronto and Philly and not ever leaving Historic Crew Stadium, a benefit for a team with one road win in approximately two years. Some breaks are good, some are bad. What bothers me most was how unprepared the team looked in the first several minutes of both games. That's on the manager. We need to come out of the gates better, especially against top competition. I was encouraged by the fact that the team showed fight and desire despite the calamity of the opening minutes of both matches, until Porter obviously threw in the towel with some of his substitutions in the second half last night. There is opportunity here for this to be a learning experience and stepping stone of sorts for the club. Whether Porter has the humility to make that happen is an open question.
Most all of our team has never played against competition of that level. To put that all on Porter is showing your bias. "Josh Williams: “That’s one of the best teams I’ve played in a long time. We gave them chances, they capitalized and that’s the story."
