You played nil-nil. Derby lost 2-1 at Swansea, and Rotherham scored in the 86th to get a 1-1 hosting Blackburn. If the scores hold up, you beat Derby, and Rotherham gets 2 or fewer points from 2 games after today, you'll survive. If Rotherham wins at Luton, you'll be mathematically alive before next Saturday, but you'll trail by 3 points, at least 6 goal differential, and goals scored. Wycombe won so no clubs are relegated yet, but they trail Derby by 3 points and 11 goal differential. You could survive or finish last. I remember rooting for Sunderland to stay in the Premier League and they had a great finish that let them survive and relegated rival Newcastle. In Italy, I root for Genoa, who stayed in Serie A from the head-to-head tiebreaker in 2018-2019 and also survived on the last matchday of 2019-2020. Now they will survive unless two clubs 2 points behind them and three clubs 5 points behind them all pass them.
I don't think we'll win another game so it's probably going to be all on Wednesday against Derby. I can't wait to hear the media make excuses for Rooney if they do go down.
The good thing for us with other results today is if we can get to 43pts Wednesday will be well up for the game against Derby, we'll need a Wednesday win in all likelihood.
That could be a big point today, Myshoe, as finishing level with Wednesday is a distinct possibility, and there's no way they'll overcome your goal differential advantage. If you beat Luton midweek, Wednesday are essentially down.
Good point! Rotherham need Wednseday to get something v Derby, and you can't see them doing that if they're already down. ... hell, what am I saying? You can't see them doing that, full stop. Best for you to win 'em both, Myshoe. That's the good news, at least. Your fate is in your hands. With your goal diff, two wins will see you through.
Crikey! George Hirst has played 30 times for you this season?! And without a single goal?! Surely a vast majority of those appearances have been coming off the bench, no? I saw the last few minutes of the game today, and I thought his movement was pretty good. Got a look or two at goal, apparently, but obviously didn't convert. Shit's gone pretty much all wrong for him since his 'contract issues' at Wednesday. What a lose/lose that turned out to be. Still, no Owls fan would bet against him scoring the goal that sends them down, the dickhead. Man, I knew he wasn't pulling up any trees over there; but I had no idea he'd made that many appearances this season.
Luton Town 0-0 Rotherham United If you beat Derby and Rotherham doesn't win at eighth place Cardiff, you survive.
Warne keeps putting him on late on hoping he'll get a goal and he never does. I think the Blackburn match is the most threatening he's looked all season. We should start him against Cardiff if that's the case as Crooks and Smith don't look capable of scoring now anyway. I doubt Warne will drop either of them though, even Ladapo struggles to get a start and he's scored us some big goals.
Waghorn off the post! Not the ball, but his head. A phenomenal clash between player and post ... really looked bad.
I've just seen on Sky Sports News it looks like a Derby player closest to the linesman might have been playing him on.
