TBD. Hopefully a club with a competent offense buys him and gives him some opportunities. I mean, from what I observed. He generally looked quite raw but that’s to be expected. His finishes were nice though.
I think so too... We could be wrong. But I don’t see how he’s going to want to flounder in the 2. Bundesliga. I’d like to see him go to a better club where he’d get service, or a loan to Holland or Belgium where he can do so and still play.
I would say, although I'm loathe to suggest that a good striker can't change a game himself, at this point Schalke 04 are so badly managed that we can't make any conclusion about his game and quality.
basically it is xi players wondering what happens with their entire life in 2months when Schalke gets relegated. So they look around to see how they can help themselves because helping the sinking ship is unrealistic. Edit: Yes, Hoppe is good.
Every single year10-15% of the BL gets relegated. If you are a weaker team in the BL this happens. The players know it’s not the end of their careers
I am curious why you would play a 37 year old striker close to 90 minutes in a meaningless game over a young striker (Hoppe) you should be trying to develop or showcase ?
There’s no reason. It’s stupid. Hoppe was definitely cooling off recently but they are already done for this season. Play the kid. This club is in shambles all around. Terrible board and front office.
because he's worse than the 37 year old and I'd imagine it shows in practice. the coach has to keep the locker room or he's at risk of ruining his career beyond just relegation. I know this is YA but the solipsism, especially with borderline talents like Hoppe is myopic. he'll always have the hat trick and maybe he can carve out a nice career in the 2nd tier of European football but frankly I think it's a stretch to consider him ever playing a meaningful game for the USMNT or a top 5 league side that isn't, well, as bad as Schalke.
If we can't predict things about young players just close the forum I guess. I don't see it with him he's not athletic, has mediocre ball skills and shot. I hope I eat my words but I'm not gonna blow smoke up his ass because he's American.
He's definitely athletic, and he has good movement off the ball. He's also not bad in possession, looks like a kid still getting used to his body. He's not the second coming of Lewandowski, but predicting his career at 20 seems ill-advised.
will be interesting to see what happens....signing that extension with Schalke could have been a mistake.
Okay, let's say I agree Huntelaar is better. You want to tell me why also-ran Mark Uth was first off the bench today? He's played 1330 minutes this season with 2 goals. That's a goal every 665 minutes. Hoppe on the other hand has 5 goals in 1081 minutes. He leads the team in goals. Huntelaar can be a better striker right now, even though he's retiring at the end of the season so giving him more minutes is rather dubious. But Uth isn't an answer to anything so the coach is still a moron and Schalke aren't doing themselves any favors.
Can’t imagine what your critiques are of those 19 year old pros who can’t get any playing time and are stuck on the bench or are playing in lower divisions. ♂️
His agent got him to Schalke. Let's hope his agent can get him out of Schalke and that they need to sell to raise funds.
Didn't the family weigh in that he's deffo going to move? (Not that that means anything, but I wondering if I'm remembering that correctly.)
Agreed. I saw some potential in him after seeing how well he took his shots when he scored the hat trick. Maybe he was getting space in that game that he has not seen since.
