Mings looks pretty much certain as the 3rd centre-back. As for the 4th, hard to say. I certainly wouldn't trust Coady in a 4 against anyone good. But neither would I trust Dier against anybody - and nobody else (Tarkowski, Konsa, Tomori, Keane etc) really seems in the frame. The second RB could really be any of Trippier, TAA and James depending which side of the bed Gareth gets up on I think he's itching to include Lingard, and as it stands, I think he'll go. I wouldn't take him, but I think he will. At whose expense is the question? I can really see it being Sancho as it stands, assuming Grealish is fit (and there must be some doubt at least) Looks a straight shoot-out between Bellingham and JWP for the 4th midfield slot. Given JWP was said to be lined up to start v Poland, hard to say that he's currently behind Bellingham - but most people would clearly take Bellingham The more you look at other opinions, you realise there really isn't any consensus about the last 5-6 places. Both these 2 have got Saka in, for example
Depending on whose fit I think Southgate is thinking of taking players like saka over a designated left back because he can play in about 5 positions in an ideal world we take 4cbs and use a guy like Walker as a backup rb and potential third cb in a 343 if we use it I would love to see tomori in the squad due to his pace and left foot as well as mings. Based on what I’ve seen this season, if Pickford magically comes back and Henderson is properly fit Pickford Henderson Pope James Walker shaw Chillwell stones Maguire Tomori Mings mount Henderson Phillips Foden Graelish Lingard Sterling Sancho Saka kane Dcl Greenwood Not a bad 23 for me, lots of players who can play multiple positions in midfield and across the wings and behind a striker enough cbs and fullback cover to play 433/4231 or a 343 Maddison you could argue dserves a place or taa as he’s coming back into form and winks is a capable passer. Konsa is better than mings but obviously not left footed tonnes of options for a change
Mark ogden is a total prick. His man utd bias is unreal. Laurens is a good pundit. Not as good as Craig burley or shaka hislop or Steve nicol
That's pretty much the squad I would go with except I would swap philips for Bellingham. Bellingham just has that extra x factor
17y 289d - Aged 17 years and 289 days, Jude Bellingham is only the second player to reach 10 UEFA Champions League appearances before turning 18, after Youri Tielemans in 2014; the previous youngest English player to reach 10 games was Theo Walcott (18y 341d in 2008). You'd have to think Bellingham has played himself into the squad with these two performances, proving he can excel in European football in knock out stages against such high quality opposition is a feather in his cap none of his competition have despite his young age. JWP probably most at risk of dropping out for the final squad given the slump Southampton are having, crawling to the finish line. Though judging by the fact he was going to start against Poland he was presumably ahead of Phillips in the pecking order since the last friendlies.
Foden, who apparently should have gone on loan ,scoring in the champions league quarter final. Pep has managed him perfectly. he’s honestly been one of city’s best players this season
Bellingham has to start for me instead of one of the defensive midfielders. Rice, Bellingham, mount. Then foden kane grealish. These players have made themselves undroppable over recent months. The main argument against Bellingham seems to be that he is just 17. He has proved he is very mature and is not phased at being thrown into big games, in fact if anything he rises to the occasion if anything.
I mean, he had just signed for £25m... Wasn't he mentioned as a monster talent in "No Hunger in Paradise" when he was 13?
It's still a fair leap from the Championship to Champions League quarter finals within a year at the age of 17. There's no guarantee he was going to progress at this rate.
Jude Bellingham's chances of securing a spot in England's Euro 2020 campaign hinge on Jordan Henderson's fitness 🏴— Sky Sports News (@SkySportsNews) April 15, 2021
It doesn't sit right with me, does anyone here think that Phillips for example is better than Bellingham? Bellingham is playing at a higher level and has more talent. I'm not sure why Phillips seems to have been fast tracked in to England, at the start of the season he was in straight away despite limited PL experience
SAKA THAT IS CLASS! 🔥A fantastic start to the game for Arsenal who have scored THREE early goals! 💥💥💥#UEL pic.twitter.com/I8tStBBmUm— Football on TNT Sports (@footballontnt) April 15, 2021
