Really open interview from JFQ - says he asked to leave River because of the mental/emotional load. You rarely see an athlete reveal that kind of thing.

Is also fascinating because if Quintero is anything, he is a big moment/game player. I wouldn't think the stress would be his issue.

If he is looking out for his mental health and planning for an early retirement good for him for thinking ahead and also being honest about it - I just wish he was doing it in a league where he will have more exposure to the NT and can stay in shape. Between him and James we need them in form when the call ups come!

Crazy to think that a guy that has scored 2 World Cup goals has only played 1 official World Cup qualifying match

He could have been a much better player if he was just a little motivated. He had next to no stamina as a 18 year old..... as a 28 year old with 6 months off? Haha

going to be 5’6 and 220 pounds in his first game

The guy has his own priorities and is living HIS best life. If you ask me - a dude that can show up and shine at two World Cups with no run up and be the star of a Libertadores finale the way he has is an es extraordinary flex. On his terms.

There are a lot of people who blow their money and end up playing too long or squander their talents unable to accomplish their dreams... But I think JFQ simply has different dreams and honestly, he seems to have accomplished and lived them on his own terms. I can respect that because he isn't faking anything, he is telling you his priorities and when we've needed him he showed up and crushed it (or at least performed way better than anyone expected).

I used to make fun of his music and lack of control in his body weight, but he earned my respect in Russia and even more after reading this interview and having the context.

Nicely put. We tend to forget all the baggage he had to live thru as a child. He's living the dream if you ask me.

The way he's doing things his own way and the way he plays and approaches the game are not so different. He thinks outside of the box and has the confidence and will to follow his own path, its commendable. He doesn't really allow himself to be held to others standards and he has gotten to the level he has because of it. As a Colombia fan I'd rather he's not in China, but I think he's probably making a smart move for his life and security by going to China (if he couldn't get any other big money moves). I still think he can contribute to the national team, and he can still get another move later to a more competitive league but overall I think we should admire the things he's achieved and his creativity.

also does this guy ever train. He wants to be a fashion line designer, rapper..... literally sounds like a girl you meet at a bar at 21. I switched majors 5 times!

have you been to China? Or Korea they are bigger than Colombians.

the way the media might present them is t what they look like in real life.

I work regularly with people straight from China in the Navy; it's very common to see them and I tend to find them more or less around average or Quintero's height so call me biased.

Also funny you should mention about Korea as I am actually having an interview for a position in that country soon...
