    You're not alone.

Panama and Guatemala both struggled to beat small Caribbean teams.

The only difference is El Salvador was unlucky.

I wish UNCAF could bring back the Copa Centroamericana to help improve our level.

Uhm why would we want Perez as our NT coach? Pull in the reigns fellas. He did great with our U23 side & will succeed with our U20 side. I feel he does NOT have the experience for a full NT yet. & yes it matters. We have two games guys. We need wins & blowouts. We’re second place bc we couldn’t score more than two against Granada at HOME. I would like Lara to come back. He’s already had experience with the NT, he coaches men’s teams and we all loved him & he wanted to be our coach. Him at the top with a Hugo at the lower teams would be the way to go

I can’t speak on Guatemala but in regards to the Panamanians it was a long time coming. The transition period hasn’t been good to them especially given they stuck with that old guard a bit longer than they should have. The World Cup should have been the send off for almost all of them and they should have had a plan ready for the youth to take over but yeah... no coach would take that risk unless he’s guaranteed being in long term.

Completely agree Hugo needs time to completely implement his system and more seasoning.

Also all El Salvador has to do is win. Next up is the US Virgin Islands and if that doesn’t end in a thrashing that’s embarrassing. Thankfully they host Antigua and Barbuda so six points is the only results acceptable.

Because it has been proven time and time again that DLC has got to go. The 2019 Gold Cup loss to Honduras was the last straw and he has done nothing to redeem himself and the squad.

Hugo is the change we need. He can’t be worse than DLC at this point; I have no faith in DLC taking us far in the 2021 Gold Cup or the 2022 WCQ.

Great point, this is an acceptable change you proposed. I think we should see what he can do with the other youth teams to help them develop. It seems like his passion is helping out the youth. These other coaches may not be in a position to come back though (situations change) and for that reason I would not be disappointed with Hugo becoming NT coach since he has vision of style of play and has had experience as assistant coach even in the US. Just like the U23 kids, you only learn with experience. The other plus of having Hugo as NT coach is his networking and ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish. He has been a youth scout for many years and he knows a lot about other players of Salvadoran descent playing in better leagues than ours so he may be able to sway them to represent ES more than any other coach.

Completely right. We have to crush the islands & see what the standings are for the final showdown. But two dubs are what are expected.
Don’t get me wrong. DLC needs to go yesterday. But we can’t keep throwing any coach to our NT. We need a system to help us succeed from top to bottom. Hugo can do the YT. He has much success in the role & can help develop an identity & actual skills to help our players succeed abroad & in our NT.

You’re right on that aspect, but I also think it’s important to have that at our lower levels too. Having players like Romero, the other GK, Calvillo, Dueñas, and so on play for our YNT will help them identify & then want to play with our full NT as well. Also it’s important to start setting up OUR HOMEGROWN PLAYERS FOR SUCCESS. Hugo can do that. The fact that we’ve had multiple good young players who disappeared (U20 WC ha) is also a showing of the mismanagement of our players at every level, league wise & NT wise

Something to keep a side eye on. St Kitts & Nevis is 1st in their group over T&T. Now they still have to face each other, but if we manage to get out of our group we face the winner of this group. If SKN somehow manage to do this, we face them & id much rather face them than T&T.

It looks like we were all a bit correct. According to this article, Hugo Perez will have continuation as U20 and U17 head coach for their respective qualifiers til 2023 with the vision of giving him the reigns for Senior NT coach for 2026 Word Cup. This is going to be the most accessible qualifiers ever with USA, Mexico and Canada already qualified which are huge obstacles that always get in our way. I am super happy with this plan since Hugo will get to continue to coach the base from this U23 for the next round. Can’t wait to see more Enrico, Calvillo, Ríos, Josh Perez, Fuentes, Hernandez, Dominguez, Romero/Alguera and other abroad players mix in with the young talent we have in ES like Diaz, Claros, Renderos, Menjivar, Martínez and Rivas just to name a few. Their collective growth at the senior level is going to be fun to watch! Just feel like we are missing a solid 9 target man and I don’t think Marquez is that guy just yet.

It would be so tragic for ES, if we were to lose Enrico Hernandez to Finland.

Like the first article suggests, there isn’t much that Finland can offer Enrico. They are not a footballing nation, never qualified for a World Cup, and have only qualified once for the Euro Cup (2020). Enrico would have to the chance to participate in the 2020 Euro Cup and UEFA Nations League, but I really hope he stays with El Salvador.

¿ADIÓS EL SALVADOR? Enrico Dueñas Hernández confirma que Finlandia lo buscó

Selección de Finlandia quiere a Enrico Dueñas

I'm surprised by some facebook comments of Salvadorians. They're saying it's better for him to play for Finland.

This is just ignorance, Finland is irrelevant in football.

    Eurosnobs

How often does Finland play in the Euro Cup and World Cup? Exactly. It’s better for him to stick with El Salvador and participate in the Gold Cups.

I couldn’t help but notice how quickly he became a fan favourite (rightfully so) among Salvadoran fans since performing in the U-23 Olympic qualifiers. I highly doubt Finnish fans would give him the same fanfare Salvadorans gave him, if he chooses Finland.

This is cool. I hope we start integrating the young guys but doubt that De Los Cobos would take 10 with him. As far who was recommended, I think Mario Martinez, Renderos, Rivas and for sure Diaz. As for the other 3? Maybe Claros since he impressed me but don’t know who else he would’ve recommended.

Fun trivia. Not only have Derby Carrillo and Pablo Punyed played together with La Selecta and IBV, but they also played college soccer (St John’s Red Storm) together; winning a 2009 conference tournament.

Love the banter between the two :D

According to Pajaro Picon, there’s 4 potential candidates:

Ernesto Corti: previously coached Santa Tecla and Aguila, as well as LigaMX club Toluca as an assistant .

Eduardo Lara: previously coached Selecta and ES U-20. Has since been coaching in Colombia’s domestic league.

Hugo Perez: current ES U-23 coach. Previously coached Selecta as an assistant.

Wilson Gutierrez: previously coached Alianza and won Apertura 2019.

I would prefer Hugo Perez stick with the junior sides of ES, while Lara replaces DLC.
