Wait, are people taking European sports “journalism” seriously? It could happen. It always could. But there’s a really good chance it won’t.
Weston will thrive in whatever squad he finds himself in. Always has and always will. That said, I've loved seeing him in Serie A. He still has a lot of room to grow with Juve. Would hate to see him leave.
Even if it's just one season, he'll have the experience of playing for arguably the biggest club of any Yank (maybe barring Dest at Barca or Howard at United). He's gotta be the frontrunner for Yank who's had the best season.
i think westons stay at juve depends more on money than anything. they are locked into a bad situation with ronaldo and have a lot of expensive players trending the wrong direction
Just throwing this out there....... Serie A is moving to Paramount+ next season. Reportedly they are going throw a chunk of money and resources into promoting Serie A from commentators, ads, pre/post match studio shows, and other weekly programming. Not saying Paramount will put the pressure on the powers that be at Serie A, but Paramount and the Serie A would benefit from CR7 staying at Juve. Then you throw in Weston McKennie, a young, likable, marketable, and budding US star and Serie A and Paramount have to be licking their chops at the potential opportunities in the US market. ESPN+ has done a serviceable job with the Serie A but they are really looking to increase their visibility in the US. I think it's safe safe to say CR7 and Weston could be a huge help.
The writing is on the wall with that one. As much as it pains me to say... We shouldn't have any trouble admitting our failure in the CL...Juve have lost 7 finals. Winning Serie A and losing the CL is in the clubs DNA
If you're talking about value of the club then we have had players at 10 of the 11 most valuable clubs in the world. Juventus is currently 10th on that list. If you are talking about the quality of the team, I'd argue we've had players who are and were on better teams. Even Beasley's PSV team was likely better than this year's Juventus team.
You are right, "extremely" is definitely not the right word. However, I stand by them not making top 4 this year. Unless Leicester decide to repeat last years failings.
As a nominal Chelsea supporter (because of Pulisic), I HOPE you are right. Because it is quite possible/probable that Liverpool would be displacing Chelsea in the CL, if they were to make a late charge into the Champions League.
Didn’t Chelsea do this to the Spurs a little while back by winning the CL while well out of the race in the prem for a CL spot?
I agree re Liverpool. Personally, I'd like to see them get a top 4 spot and think they will. Makes for a good seasonal story and sets the team on a positive track for next season.
This whole development is bizarre. His agent's word choice/phrasing doesn't exactly throw cold water on the possibility of leaving if "forced."
Not sure of your question. Are you referring to the earlier conversation about a 5th EPL spot in the CL? If so, the rules were changed around 2014 or 2015 so that a team winning the Europa League (in this case we were discussing Manchester United) was granted an automatic CL spot the next year, regardless of placement in the domestic league. That would NOT eliminate the 4th placed team in the EPL from qualification. Elimination of the 4th placed team only happens if (in a similar scenario) an EPL team ALSO won the the CL and BOTH EPL teams that won the CL and Europa fell outside of the top 4. In that circumstance the 4th placed team in the league would be booted out of the CL. My point was that none of this matters, as Manchester United is (in my mind) certain to finish in the top 4 of the EPL.
They probably meant biggest club historically, and as a regular in the squad. In which case, McKennie at Juventus is definitely in that conversation, alongside Howard at Man United and Dest at Barcelona (although all 3 are/were at those clubs during a down period). Pulisic at Chelsea probably is up there too if you only focus on the past 20 years or so. Going by total points, the all-time Champions League top 5 is Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern, Man United, and Juventus (with the order being the only thing that changes slightly depending on whether or not you include games from the old European Cup). Chelsea are 6th, if you only focus on the modern Champions League,
He's still a little loose (probably always will be) with his passing, but there is no doubt how quick of thought Weston is now on the ball.
Yep, with big Brad Friedel (playing for Spurs at the time) commentating on the game when it happened. The guy was just crushed.
Gotta love BigSoccer. Dude is crushing it at historically (or last 15 years) the biggest club in Italy and we are already talking about him leaving.
