He needs to learn to play against smaller craftier players. His long legs don't help him in close-in battles but it sure does when needing to cut-off passes.
I call it as I see it. Praise him when doing something good and point out mistakes when he makes them.

Its ok to say he wasn't great today without concluding he's a failure and will never make it at this level. It's one game in a long process. There's a reason he was subbed out in the 75th minute as a defender up 1-0, and it wasn't because he's going to be a failure. It is what it is.
He got his first start in Serie A in a game Roma had to win, and didn't hurt the team. The whole team was out of sync until Mayoral's goal. Probably 5-6 starters not playing. Take the W and move on.
The English announcer who is paid to call games and evaluate players performances or you. That’s a tough call. I watched it to and I went with an open mind knowing that Bryan Reynolds has had limited playing time so far with Roma. Reynolds Started and helped on defense when needed especially a dangerous through ball that was probably the biggest defensive play of the day for Roma . He was dangerous on the attack at times but could be better once he gets his feet. Not great but not a poor performance at all.
Karsdorp, when healthy and staying healthy, is for everybody talking about the Orange Squad the number one right back.
I think one of the announcers said "solid, if not spectacular debut." I would agree. But especially in Italy, there are like zero 19 year olds playing often. He's not ready yet, but he's ahead of schedule. Onward.
Not sure it's so much posting to vent, but being hyper-focused on one player will tend to make people more critical. There are also some that want to tamp down on the hype, which if you've been in YA for the last 10-20 years is understandable.
Wow. You're right I should agree with every announcer because they are always right. They say it, it is fact.
Very true, that's why both can be true. Not very good today, defenders normally don't expend the most energy and play the 90 if they start. Not the end of the world. I hope he'll do better.
According to Transfermarkt, Roma has subbed out at least one of its wingbacks early in 6 of the last 7 games in which it has lined up with a formation requiring wingbacks. I wouldn't read too much into it.
They were playing a 3-4-3. The wide players cover a ton of ground, and frequently get subbed out under the five sub rule. Also, he hasn't played 90 in a competitive match since October or so? Manager probably wasn't sure he had the legs, either. The job was to eat up those minutes, rest people for the Ajax match, and try to get the win anyway against a weaker opponent. He got better as the match went on. He wasn't that good, but the mission was accomplished, and hopefully this experience helps him be better next match from the start.
He's a 19 year old rookie starting in his first game and you "hope" he'll do better? Where is your perspective? What were you expecting in his first start in one of the biggest leagues in the world? The unrealistic expectations or opinions based on zero fact or analysis in these boards is unreal. What evidence do you have to back up your statements that defenders ( and he was playing a wingback position today) don't expend much energy and they play the 90 if they start? That's a blanket statement that lumps all defenders and systems together.
