For now. They only avoided relegation last season by 5 points.

Oh man, please never go through a dry spell Dike wherever you land next season.

I’m assuming Barnsley have full control over getting Dike on a permanent transfer if they’re promoted.

On one hand I’d love to see him stay because they love him there, but at the same time I’d prefer he lands at a mid-table EPL team rather than Barnsley whose offense might be mostly hospital balls to Dike.

They seem like a realistic option as they are willing to spend pretty big money and need some young talent, but man it seems like they’re just above the relegation zone every year. I hope he can go to a more productive and ambitious club.

If they have an option to buy, Orlando is obligated to accept that pre-determined offer, but Orlando is not precluded from accepting a bigger offer from another team that can pay Dike more.

That’s crazy talk - he could do worse than playing for Moyes. And that worse is playing for the aesthetic car crash that is Sean Dyche’s teams.

(West Ham also could use a center forward unlike Burnley.)

I prefer he stay the hell away from all 3 of these, especially Chelsea. He needs a stepping stone before going to a world class team. The slightest dip in form ( which is inevitable) will get him on the bench, especially if the coach decides that style of striker ( experiment) didn’t work.

And yet they've finished comfortably mid-table pretty much every season they've been up. Their problem is Hodgson is going to retire, so who knows who will replace him and what style they'll play. They also have a ton of holes to fill as it seems like half their roster's contracts expire at season's end. They're going to have to spend money but the midfield and defense need it more.

Yeah I wasn’t slamming them or anything. I just feel like he’d be in better hands if he went somewhere like Leicester or Wolverhampton.

That's nonsense. West Ham would be a great spot and they have a very solid core of players. If they can keep Rice and Lingard, alongside the Czechs who have both proven fantastic signings, and learning from Moyes and Micael Antonio -- who would be a pretty ideal mentor -- it would be a very logical and productive next step IMO. West Ham likely have Europe to contend with next year as well. Kid's probably not gonna go from UVA to Orlando to Barnsley to Madrid, but a stop at a team like Everton or West Ham makes a lot of sense.

didn't really have his shooting boots on yesterday
Defenders have gotten the memo though, if you are near Dike go down like youve been shot by an elephant gun and the ref will blow the whistle. It like reverse Hack a Shaq.

Yeah, and thanks to the poster who linked to the Barnsley forum recently I now understand a bit more of the nuance of the situation. I'll piggyback on your comment here and add clarity for others.

Barnsley certainly has first right to pay the transfer fee negotiated in the loan contract, but Dike won't necessarily agree to personal terms with them (and their fans think agreeing personal terms is unlikely to happen and/or unwise for the club). The assumption is that other bigger clubs will easily outbid what Barnsley will be able to offer Dike in salary. So the most likely outcome is that is doesn't matter if Barnsley can fork out $20M because Dike will get better salary offers from other clubs.

Yeah. I wonder if Dike will try to do anything to help them out, such as signing for them with a loan-to-buy obligation in place with a bigger club.

Dike has the Aaron Judge extra-human quality about him. He's just that 10% bigger, 10% faster and more powerful than the people playing around him.

The kid should be playing in the prem, but he needs to be bought by a club that understands that he is not the finished product, and needs time to adjust to playing alongside and against people with his same elite level physical capabilities. It's going to be eye opening for him to have guys who are at the same level physically as he is, as he's probably getting used to being the biggest and fastest player on the field.

I remember watching Cam Newton play in college and knowing he was just a man among boys, and then seeing him in his first few years at the NFL level thinking he was still slightly bigger, and more powerful than the guys trying to defend him when he ran. My hope is that Dike follows that path in the prem, but we'll see (with any hope).

Friendly moderator’s note: this isn’t the forum or thread for MLS vs Championship. That’s a good discussion for an MLS forum.

I think he should go to RB Leipzig. They need a striker. He would learn in the BL. If they don't want Daka from Salzburg, he would be a great fit. 2 years there and he will be more than ready for the Prem.

And that's totally fair. CP is my little engine that could and I'm defensive. Leicester would be awesome for him but I would dearly love an American to root for on my team(s).

I have a feeling in this context "hospital ball" means the defender got in the way of Dike in his way to the ball and ended up in the hospital.

It wouldn't be YA without all the hand wringing, but damned, this guy is really good. No matter the level of play in the championship, Dike has practically put the team on his back and is almost willing them to promotion. All this from a kid who is still wide eyed from the whirlwind his professional career has been to date.

He is not going to be at Barnsley next year regardless of how it goes. guys that can do what he has done this season, at the very top levels, start at over 60 million and go up from there. Covid transfer devaluation issues or no, for ~20 mil give or take a few quid, somebody is going to take a flyer on him.

I don't get why folks say he can only play this style or that style. He can press, he can hold up and lay off, he can get on the end of through balls even if he doesn't outrun the guy he will just bully him off, he has a cannon for a leg, he has good movement. If you are looking for intricate combo play in the center of the pitch, hire a midfielder. As far as combinations in and around the box, well most of the time i suspect he is going to shoot when he gets sight of goal, and most coaches are fine with that out of a striker, since that is really their primary function... score goals.

I think it is a bit early to try and pigeonhole him into some preconceived archetype.
