At Villa, he's the main man and everything goes through him. He wouldn't be at City. You can't say with any certainty what his numbers would be when you've got the likes of De Bruyne, Bernardo, Mahrez, Foden etc all looking to pick up the ball in similar areas. It's likely his goals and assists would increase, but his other numbers go down somewhat.

I think he's talking about this level of play but most of that has been in the championship

And it wasn't at the levels he was showing in 2020. He clearly stepped it up last year, especially after lockdown.

It’s a a bit of a cliche that actually doesn’t work for Grealish. Against Belgium there were other good players and grealish saw a lot more of the ball than anyone else

It’s exactly this. Grealish is a player who will ask for the ball in difficult areas and keep it, carry it forward. What we’ve been lacking at every tournament for decades.

It's a one off game, and the players were not of the level he would be playing with at at Man City and it was in a completely different formation. City have more possession and are more patient in their attacking than England. He wouldn't be playing the same role. There's no comparison of a 3-4-2-1 with Rice and Henderson behind him with playing in one of the attacking positions at City and De Bruyne pulling the strings, Bernardo or Gundogan breaking from midfield and Mahrez or Foden offerring an option on the other flank.
I've no doubt he would fit in, but he wouldn't be the focal point he is at Villa.

I agree, also I see Phil foden like this too. Both very technically gifted and the type of players always overlooked by dinosaur england managers and we wonder why we always lose against the top nations.

There’s some rumours doing the rounds that the reason Maddison isn’t playing today is because he and some others broke curfew rules and had a party or something. If true then I think he can book a holiday at Butlins this Summer.

Lingard with another 2 goals. 8 goals, 3 assists in 9 games.

Didn't think he'd be in the squad but that is truly outrageous form.

Why do people use net spend? It implies that clubs have no other source of income.
The past few years they have dropped their spending relative to the other big clubs. They certainly didn't go big in the previous couple of seasons - for the 18/19 and 19/20 seasons combined they ranked 17th in spending.

If Rashford and Grealish are doubts for the Euros then on this form Lingard is almost nailed on to go.

I don't know who is pleading poverty, I just made the observation that they don't spend stupid money for big stars. As soon as the bidding gets beyond their valuation they back out, as they did for Maguire, VVD, Jorginho etc.

I think lingard will go regardless. Southgate has been itching to get him back in. Dont mind him going if there's a 25 man squad but not at the expense of sancho grealish or rashford

Has anything been said on a 25 man squad? I can't see the smaller nations being too happy about that.
I would have thought having a group of say 5 reserves in the bubble with the main squad who you could sub in and maintain the 23 would be fairer.

What accounts for a fair chunk of City's spending is in previous years they had paid some decent fees for fairly average players (Bravo, Nolito, Bony) and a lot of money on prospects.
£60m for Dias is pretty good business when you look at the Maguire fee. A similar fee for Mahrez looks like value when you see what Arsenal paid for Pepe the following season. Cancelo cost only £10m more than Wan-Bissaka.
That said, it wouldn't surprise me if this talk is just gamesmanship in a pursuit of Haaland.

Lingard will probably go ahead of Maddison now.

Absolute fools those Leicester players are, no excuses and Barnes/Maddison will most likely not be in the squad now even if Barnes especially was a very outside bet.

If rashford is out I would be tempted to take Greenwood
