I think it’s fair to say that Greg and his staff keep tabs on potential player moves, whether they hear about it from the player, his agent, the selling club or the buying club. Soto also benefited from the post-Brexit, transfer rules, and he also got capped, so it seems likely they were trying to help the player since that can also help the Nats.

Whatever the # was at the beginning his performance has either justified the value or increased it since he's joined. I was shocked to hear (and it's partially blowin' smoke most likely) Boro's manager Neil Warnock suggest Dike was the best striker in the championship.

I don't know, every game I've seen him play it's like watching FIFA on cheat mode. He's just too good for the Championship.

Is he too good for it or is he simply a perfect fit for it?

I don't know if he's too good for the Championship, but his non-PK goals per 90 minutes rate is basically off the charts compared to any other starting striker in the league right now.

He's 20, so being a perfect fit for it, would make him too good. Maybe if he was 28 he'd have found his level, but he ain't.

And I’ll say it again...at a mediocre strike rate he’s a very, very useful player. At THIS strike rate, Warnock has a point,

He certainly is likely to become better than an EFL starter. I don’t think a partial season is enough to declare yourself “too good”. Even Haaland spent an entire year at Salzburg. If he keeps this up, maybe it translates to EPL/Big 4 interest, but I think it’ll be a tough transition.

Dike has priced himself out of anywhere but the EPL or a super club on the continent. So, while I'd love to see him end up at a nice stepping stone club, its almost financially impossible for a few different reasons.

I think he ends up in the EPL and hopefully its somewhere like Everton or Leeds or somewhere where spending $20 million really puts pressure on the club to give him lots of opportunities to succeed.

Probably true, though there are clubs on the Continent that could spend 15-20 million on a player outside of BMU, PSG, RM, and the like.

From what I have seen he is a good fit for any team. He may not be blinding fast, but he is fast enough. He hasn't impressed me with his header game, but perhaps it is overshadowed by how much space he occupies. Dude plays like a beast with a gigantic radius that requires two men to cover.

Dude has game!! I would love to see him abuse Agent Luiz, Harry McGuire, and John Stones next season.

Dang, what's a guy got to do to impress you with their header game then? The guy swallows up nearly everything in the air and most of the time makes a good headed pass to a teammate to continue the play.

A damn shame how it is. Dude could be doing well in La Liga or Bundesliga but only the PL has average or midtable clubs who can drop that kinda dough.

game over - what a great performance by Dike (the Happy Hammer) ....

    hustled for 95 mins

    scores

    played great D

good layoffs and combo play when he had to

got his head on the cross to go 2 - 0 ....

was involved on the corner kick causing keeper issues - and Mowatt scores

Neil Warnock got more pissed off as game went on and part of it was having to figure out how to defend against Dike.

Dike played stronger the last 30 mins than he did the first 60 mins ....

He played in another league below the EPL but above Austria, and had success there also. So it's a sample across two seasons.

Haaland barely played in the Austrian Bundesliga his first half season and they had to hold onto him into the next season to play in ucl anyway. Will do the same with Aaronson, ready or not.

Dike already has a massive amount of EPL/big 4 interest and offers. He's off. Whether he's good enough or not we'll find out. But that's every move up a level. Gotta go eventually. After you conquer C'Ship/MLS is the right time.

His ascendancy is pretty exceptional. Dude might have a real shot at being in the running for the club's Player of the Year

Some glowing praise from the Middlesbrough manager, Neil Warnock, ahead of the game.

The Boro boss said: “I think they’ve probably got the best striker in the division in Dike. It’s said they’ve got a £17m buyout, so I would imagine if they go up, they’ll be buying him because he’s been unbelievable when I look at his clips. He scores goals, he’s big, strong and young. He’s got every attribute really.

“I’d have him tomorrow, but I don’t think Steve (Gibson) will mortgage the Riverside for that. He’s got a £17m buyout, but he’s got all the attributes. Good luck to them. I think the owners had a link with the club in America, which got them first choice, and he’s come over and been a revelation.

I don’t think I’ve seen anyone quite like him in terms of having an impact straight away in a league like the Championship. He’s been unbelievable, and I think the rest of their players have just responded to his strength.
