Imagine, just for a moment, where Chelsea might be in the standings if Sargent had been brought in instead of Timo Werner and what that might have done for Sargent's rep.
He won't be a Klose as he was pretty much a poacher who had serious hops and absolute beast in the air. Sargent doesn’t have those kind of hops and it isn’t something you attain at this point. Sargent is a different type of player and maybe more like Lewa minus the performance at this point. Josh can and should get stronger and maybe he can use Lewa as a model to strive towards as the guy is top top tier physically. Below talks about how Lewa was scrawny as s teen and then developed. Probably didn’t hurt that his parents were serious athletes. https://talksport.com/football/7044...iet-workout-stats-goals-record-height-weight/
I tend to think there is a lot of space between "he will be another Lewandowski" and "he can be a very good #1 striker for USMNT." He is not CP/Weah/Morris fast, but he is fast enough for a guy his size. When I watch him play he just seems to have a complete game, and is full off energy and good decisions, albeit on a bad team. When and if he gets more chances, I suspect he will convert more. He is already good with his head, and just needs to experience more game situation goal opportunities with his feet. My problem is that I don't trust the USMNT leadership, and won't until we actually start beating good teams in meaningful games. If in that kind of match(with everyone available) Zardes or Altidore sits ahead of Sargent on the depth chart, my distrust will grow. JMO.
I tend to think that Sargent will be very consistent for the USA, especially in CONCACAF. But I'm a big fan of his to begin with...
You could tell. It was a lousy game and Werder's attack was still toothless but also more disjointed than before. Josh will start as soon as he's served his suspension.
Werder losing 1-0 without Sargent was just about the easiest result to foresee. Everyone loves to talk about fullkrug being such a great goal scorer since he got to score a few penalties, but the team is absolutely toothless without Sargent (and it's not like they're good with him either).
8 matches left including a Cup game midweek. Josh needs to score a few more to cap off a difficult season. Hopefully the cup match delivers that. I'm sure the fans would be blown if they somehow sneaked into the Cup Final.
Unlucky loss against Stuttgart due to an own goal. Kohfeldt has them play in a 4-4-2 more often recently which he wants to do more for the rest of the season. This led to good buildups until the box but the last passes weren’t played well. Rashica and Füllkrug made some poor decisions but in Füllkrug‘s case this may have been due to a broken toe which will force him to sit out 1-2 games at least. Important cup game against Regensburg today. I think Sargent will start again after his suspension but it‘s also possible that Selke will start due to his good performance in training.
Today we have the long-awaited DFB Cup quarterfinal match at Jahn Regensburg at 12:30 PM eastern (postponed from early March). The winner will host RB Leipzig on April 30. The other semifinal is Dortmund v Holstein Kiel. My advice to Josh: score early and often.
I think Sargent might be drunk today. He has kicked the ball accidentally off his feet about 3 times now, in relatively dangerous positions, mostly going directly out of bounds.
