Nice to see in the midst of the longest unbeaten streak in the 'big 5' leagues. Especially happy (and surprised) for Dest and Mingueza, first time for each I'm certain.
Can you or anyone find a La Liga season chart that shows our position in the table jornada by jornada? I've seen this kind of graphic in past seasons, and I think it would be amazing to see where we've come from just a few months ago. edit: Even something like this would be fun:
Probably not the graphic you're used to seeing but this does provide what you're looking for. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020–21_FC_Barcelona_season#Results_by_round Although the table positions listed under each week are correct it should be noted that Barca didn't play their first Liga fixture until Jornada 3. This explains why they are listed in 12th and 15th place after the first two jornadas despite "wins" in those two rounds. J1 : 3-1 (H) Elche was played on February 24 (between J24-J25). J2 : 3-2 (A) Athletic Bilbao was played on January 6 (between J17-J18)
Speaking of having games in hand, Barca are going to have 2 games in hand on LPB and Atleti at certain times later this month. Psychologically this could be a problem if we lose (or even draw) el clasico as we could find ourselves 7 points (or 4) behind LPB soon after (with 2 games in hand).
Seems Pique and Sergi are fit for the clasico. Imo this is not such good news in the sense that Koeman might actually be thinking about playing Pique, or even worse playing both Pique and Sergi. I can’t stress enough how important match fitness is in order to get back to your level. Remember what happened last time Koeman played Pique right after he recovered from injury vs PSG? Especially in a big game like the clasico I wouldn’t start either of the two recently recovered in arguably the biggest game of the season for us.
Hmm, yeah, I had seen that chart with our table position after each jornada. I'm sure by the end of this campaign someone will produce the thing I'm after, with all the teams (or at least us, LPB, ATM, and maybe Sevilla) tracked week to week. Interesting to see how the loss to Atleti in November left us at 13th while after the loss to Cádiz we were 9th. The latter definitely felt more like the low point, psychologically. And we haven't lost a league match since! <knocks on wood>
Probably not, but if I were guessing I'd say Pique starts. The fact that Araujo has been in-and-out with injuries himself probably factors in with that decision.
Neymar to return ?? According to Mundo Deportivo, there is ‘unanimity’ within the squad that they would much rather the club pursue a deal to bring back Neymar from Paris Saint Germain than any move for Wijnaldum or his compatriot Memphis Depay.
Referee Nicola Rizzoli: Which ones are the worst mistakes in his career? "Once I gave an inexistent penalty in a Milan derby, but the one I will never forget was in a Champions League match between Atletico Madrid and Barcelona. "I awarded Barcelona a free-kick instead of a penalty because for a handball. The Atletico Madrid player had his feet outside the box, but his hand was inside, and I didn't notice it. Barcelona could have qualified if they had scored. Unfortunately, there was no VAR at that time."
Barca gets a chance for revenge on PSG, albeit Barca Femeni. PSG shocked title holders Lyon in the COVID-delayed quarterfinal 2nd leg in Lyon, where PSG won 2-1, for a 2-2 aggregate score, PSG advancing on the away goal rule. So Barca will play PSG in one semifinal. Chelsea v Bayern in the other, return leg in London. We play first leg in Paris April 25th, back in Barca May 2nd. Related question, should we start a thread for Barca Femeni? Related topic, Barcelona Basketball is at the very top of the Euroleague for basketball, finishing 24-10 for first place of 18 teams, 8 of which qualify for upcoming playoffs. We take on Zenit first, in a best of 5 playoff, 3 home games for Barca including game 5 if needed. The 4 survivors go to the "final four" in a neutral location, this year in Cologne, Germany May 28th semis (one and done) and May 30th final:
WOW UEFA considering kicking Real, Chelsea ManCity out of this year's CL and ManU and Arsenal out of Europa League based on Super League 'insubordination' 1384193081746984961 is not a valid tweet id
Here is the guy who is speaking on behalf of Barcelona in the new ******** everyone else we're in the money league; https://www.football365.com/news/florentino-perez-european-super-league-spokesman-dirty-dozen
I'm really disappointed it's taking so long for the team to make a public statement of "yeah, this was a terrible idea".
The whole thing is an uter joke, we have the president of Real Madrid speaking rubbish on behalf of Barca and now the only 2 club left in the facial greed is good league are us and LPB and they still won't admit it was a horrendous error. Perhaps they are going to play each other 38 times a season.
