From The Athletic ($): https://theathletic.com/2478451/2021/03/28/barnsley-daryl-dike/ It was 12:47 a.m. Greenwich Mean Time when Daryl Dike stepped onto the pitch to make his debut for the U.S. men’s national team, and in that exact moment the fate of two Americans converged in what would become one of the best deadline day deals in the Championship this season. Because Dike is considered a ‘young talent’ under the age of 21, his appearance in the U.S.’s 7-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago on Jan. 31st earned him enough points under the new Governing Body Endorsements (GBE) qualification
The only reason I'd be against this is the depth chart looks bad for him. Otherwise it's about the right club fit for his style, ability, & service. https://www.eurosport.co.uk/footbal...plan-transfer-notebook_sto8198835/story.shtml
Would be a great backup for Calvert-Lewin. Supersub Dike on the end of a James cross or holding up to hit a cutting Richarlison seems awesome.
That would be cool. Especially if he comes at a significant investment for Everton such that he will definitely get opportunities.
As many have previously mentioned in this thread already if any of this rumor mill stuff is true the question for Dike and Orlando is $$ and is Dike willing to go somewhere like Everton where minutes are hard to come by? Or try the Jozy route and go somewhere with guaranteed PT but your opportunities to score will be few and far between.
the training would be superior .... even if he gets loaned out in Europe that will be great training for him and a chance to shine.
Why not split the difference and go to a mid-table team that needs a striker, or to a top team in a lesser league?
A top team in a lesser league will never pay $20M. The choices are top 10 in EPL, top 5 in BL, top 4 in Serie A, or PSG. There is nothing wrong in learning from the best strikers in the world at age 21.
If he goes for 20 million, I agree, but I doubt he goes for that much. Anything above 10 million dollars with a sell-on clause would be very fair to Orlando, IMO. It’s not like they spent a lot of time and effort developing him.
Supposedly they've already rejected $10M offer withouht even considering it. And that was before the loan. Even if they won a loterry doesn't mean the'll give anyone discount on the ticket.
And I can believe it, but they risk having a very pissed off player if they don’t get higher offers and they try to keep him. I imagine that if a team made an unsolicited 10 million dollar offer, they’d probably be willing to go up to 13-14 million, and I think plenty of teams could afford that if they really like Dike.
Will see. I think that Orlando is unhappy now if the buy out option is just $20M. His fair value is probably above that already. https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/orla...awards-after-red-hot-form-on-loan-at-barnsley
""Honestly, it's just a result of having great service and guys around me!"" what an excellent statement to make ....
He's a big boy, he has to know that he's in the BUSINESS of football and is under contract. They have the right to demand proper payment for his worth. If he goes back to Orlando and sulks and doesn't perform, he guarantees that he'll have to stay in MLS longer.
I’d say that if they get interest from several clubs and don’t sell him, they’re not being reasonable about “proper payment for his worth”. The careers of pro athletes are very short, and opportunities to advance your career are rare. Dike or any other player would be well within their rights to push hard for a move when they’re on relatively low wages and have several suitors. In any other profession, people are free to switch jobs and seek raises or promotions. The idea that he should be happy to sit quietly on a low six-figure salary while Orlando holds out indefinitely for an 8-figure sum is ridiculous.
The tenor of this Dike transfer discussion is way too high right now. Orlando had one decent bid that they rejected. We haven't heard from the player what he wants. We don't know what club made the bid and what they would do with him. He's still contracted on a loan to a club he's playing very well for (and has 2 more months on loan, after which time they might get promoted to the EPL). And there's an option for that club to buy him. Orlando can't sell him to some other club before the contract with Barnsley is concluded.
It seems unlikely that Orlando would need to hold out for an 8 figure offer. They reportedly already received one.

I worry that the hype train for Dike is moving a bit fast. He has like 30 games total so far. I'm absolutely at the forefront of "trust clubs' talent evaluation over the BS Eye Test Brigade", so it's awesome to see the Everton interest. I just worry about him moving up too fast. It's great to say that Everton is the right club for his ability, but I don't know if that's true at this point. Having a striker playing regularly at a club like Everton would be something we've never seen before from a US striker. And then you have the entire question of "go to a lesser club where service might be poor ala Jozy" or "better club where he might not get minutes". I wonder if a decent-to-good team in Holland or France would be interested, possibly as a useful stepping stone? Hopefully the next few months of his loan are as successful as it has been so far, and Orlando can sell him for a tidy profit.
