I hope that La Liga TV rights in the US go to an accessible option for 2021-22, because it would be nice to see Dest play for Barcelona!

Hopefully if ESPN loses Serie A to Paramount+, they replace it with La Liga (and bring over Ray Hudson).

messi has to love in form dest because that’s the saucy way he wants to see his teams play

 

Messi seemed genuinely pretty happy/excited for Sergy after both goals. I know he's been there a while but it's still got to be something to have Messi giving you a congrats hug in a real live grown-up game.

Dest getting a lot of deserved love from his teammates and the announcers. It was certainly his best game as a pro... period. He was so good today. At any rate, the announcers talked a lot about how Dest turned it around after being benched but really failed to mention the main difference... the position. The entire season has turned on it's head for him since moving to wingback and letting Mingueza do most of the defensive duties in the 3CB system. Today Dest was everywhere... consistently part of the attack with goals and good interplay in tight spaces... while also getting back on D several times to make good challenges. Just fantastic. Really happy for the young guy... appears that he is finally fitting in at Barca.

 

That announcer has some great moments. He isn’t the brightest color commentator but some of the stuff he says and his excitement when there’s a goal / near goal shows such a love of the game.

 

Apropos of nothing, it’s quite funny that Dest is a better winger than trincao

 

That first goal was finished at a very high level of play. The run, first touch, and finish were all executed at high speed with sophistication. He makes it look easy because he’s that good.

I still think that Dest might be the highest quality US player we have ever fielded.
