Hopefully a win-win-win with S04 getting some money, Hoppe getting some temporary financial security with his S04 contract and Hoppe getting sold to a side with a better attack.
I’d prefer PSV. At Ajax there’s more risk he doesn’t get playing time. Honestly I think the Eredivise is one of the better leagues to develop for an attacker, and a league that’s a clear selling league. Belgium wouldn’t be bad either.
that tweet made me laugh out loud. American youth soccer culture for sure. Just beautiful! As Eric Wyalda said "the biggest problem with youth sports in this country is the parents!". Although... she does have a point... LOL
If Lalas said he needs the ball more, would the tweet be scrutinized? Klinsmann? Seems accurate to me. Should be true and accurate to anyone who watches Schalke. They refuse to pass to their strikers. Shoot, they can't get numbers up in the opponents final third.
I'd be wary of Ajax. Great club but not sure he'd get enough play time except on Jong Ajax. But I'd argue that just about any Eredivisie team would be a great next step. That said he really, really needs at least 45 minutes in the upcoming friendlies so teams see him with a much better midfield that can pass the ball to him. Anything to show his 3 game outburst wasn't a fluke and in the right situation he'd be an asset to another club. Just happy more rumors are coming to light and teams see what we see. He's got a lot of intriguing skills that could work at the top level if given a chance on a better team with a competent style.
Well Brian Brobbey is gonna leave Ajax at the end of the season so a roster spot is opening up for a forward.
I’m guessing he has a release clause in case of relegation or something. It makes no sense to be connected with other clubs and have his mom badmouthing the club so soon after signing a contract. If so, that would be a pretty good play for him to play it. If he gets injured, he still gets paid by Schalke, and if not, Schalke can compensated for his departure. Anybody have any inside info?
Clubs are smart enough to assess him on what he's done with Schalke. 45 mins with the NT is not critical.
Young American attackers have a decent track record of production in the Eredivisie. It has made some look very good...until some of them went elsewhere...but, a good brand of soccer to bag some goals in and gain confidence, nonetheless.
The Ered is America's stepping stone to the ultimate goal: Canada! (I'd be a bit wary of Ajax, except as a development move - he will have pressure to produce very quickly and consistently to stay on Ajax1 - although a season in the Ersete won't kill him either if he's scoring. If I were his folks I'd look to a 4-8 club - still pressure to produce, but less resources/incentive to replace you quickly if you aren't putting up numbers right away.)
At the risk of scooping Brian on big soccer with Brian on Twitter, just saw this: (ps. read Brian and support his posts.) Berhalter on Matthew Hoppe "was a player who could have only played in the first game... he's one of those guys who just didn't work out because of a numbers game because of that." #USMNT— Brian Sciaretta (@BrianSciaretta) March 17, 2021
