Someone needs to hammer it home to James that if he's afraid to run at defenders then he isn't getting into the 11. With his pace he doesn't need to be a good dribbler. Use the Valencia method of using one headfake and then just push the ball into space and outrun the defender. It won't be pretty but it'll work.
Very encouraging display from Mase today: very good things will happen for the remainder of the season if he can keep that type of intent and enthusiasm going.
You can move the defence around - come short, spin in behind, make angled runs from wide ... or just do what we do and give the guy on the ball no option by just standing with your back to goal next to your marker, looking at the guy with the ball expecting some miracle. Maybe hope for an own goal
I get that our resources are limited at the moment. But still, no subs from Ole? And one wonders why we're either dropping players like flies (from injuries) or that they're simply dead on their feet...
Hats off to the skip today: put in one heck of a shift today (backline as a whole has been solid today). FT: 1-0. A scrappy but deserved win from the boys today.
James has a lot of issues, but to be fair he does seem to know when to commit a tactical foul. Something we seem to be better at as a team recently tbh.
No EPL game for nearly 3 weeks now - makes this win even more important given it will have to sit in our stomachs until then
This was actually a very big win for us today, one that goes some way towards helping us secure top 4 (even if we're not there yet obviously). Hopefully, we get everyone back post intl break, which will only help us for the run in. Not the prettiest but it was very much needed, especially in light on Leicester winning today as well who are still breathing right down our necks.
Maguire was massive for us. Shaw was really good too, and Mase put in a good shift up top. Made some great runs down the channels, Bruno and the opposite winger didn’t offer the runs to get onto his cutbacks though. Deserved the result, it was tough but we were clear of them over the 90.
In fairness to Scott, think the slight flick he got on the ball was key to Dawson heading into his own net - only had to move the ball slightly for it to come of Dawsons head in the wrong direction (for him!). Credit to Bruno for the corner - was right on the money.
The club's perhaps most famous super sub just hates making subs himself... 0 - Tonight was the first time since February 2012 against Liverpool that Manchester United didn't make a single substitution in a Premier League match. Unusual. pic.twitter.com/Tzo5MCT0KZ— OptaJoe (@OptaJoe) March 14, 2021
Yup. It was a big win, particularly given the points dropped by Chelsea, Spurs and Everton (on top of West Ham, obviously). Nice to be back in 2nd but nicer to continue to create separation from the chasing pack.
